SPOILERS FROM THE BOOKS ( for anyone who didn't read them)
Well, at least WE know that he doesn't die !
But just think about the poor, miserable souls, that read the books as they were written !! ACD really did intended to "kill him off" and he even stayed like that for a while, but, due to such a big demand ( and i bet desperate pleading) from the readers, he changes his mind and and "brought Sherlock back". Just imagine living then, after loving and respecting a character that much, to have him killed off, by a scoundrel and in a PHYSICAL FIGHT, nevertheless ! A physical fight?! Really ACD?! What was he thinking? I've always wondered this... why in the Gods name would you kill such an intelligent character, whose whole life revolves around his MENTAL capacities, in a PHYSICAL FIGHT?! It just seems like such a waste of good character and it fond it pretty disappointing when i read it. But, anyways, everything turns out for the better, so I guess ACD did get some redemption there.
