I don't think ~watermarks can fix this. It's a problem on deviantart; the "file not found' bug. You can read more about it on the status forum: [link]

Errm... you might want to re-upload the image, because it's showing up as a red X...

a really super tutorial but i dont seem to get it to work either with white or balck text. Do you have to save the image as a particular file? (i saved it as jpg)

I'm sorry to bother you...but mine didn't work. I think it has to do with how I saved it...obviously a Jpeg wouldn't work...so what could I save it as?

CazW In reply to Obi-quiet [2006-03-14 09:02:25 +0000 UTC]
hiya.. i saved mine as jpeg and it worked... one thing that isn't obvious from the tutorial is the text layer is on top of the pattern layer and it is the text layer that is set to exclusion
hope this helps

OH! That makes a lot more sense! I had the pattern layer set to exclusion!
What exactly does the "exclusion" button do?

Thatโs because IE pulls a checkered selection coloured something over images, while other browsers pull a solid, but translucent one.

People should note that this way of watermarking is noticable to a point* and they should be careful on pure whites because it darkens it and leaves a noise pattern.
*Its more noticable on flatscreens*
Of course its nice to see a tutorial on it. And I have been using this method for ages now. Infact my boyfriend refinded and made a program that automatically does two kinds of invisible watermarks for me at once, with the click of one button, and the strength is adjustable
Anyways thanks for sharing this with other artists

This is uber helpful, but I was wondering (and I bet you get questions like this much too much) but what type of file should I save it to? I normally save my images as PNGs because JPEGs are too blury. I hope I don't annoy you with my questioning, I bet you're buisy with comments and questions on this.

I tried this just now, and I have only one question.
What color text should we be using for the watermark. I am using black text, but when I finish and highlight my image, it is very hard to read and some parts barely visible.
Anyway, thank you for such a wonderful tutorial.

Terrible tutorial, badly written. Unclear. Do you want to send me the steps, because I've been trying to watermark an image for over an hour, following the steps exactly, and it doesn't work.

That's really cool - I noticed that in mozilla firefox, the watermark doesn't pop up but in internet explorer, it does.
It highlights the images in with the same colour ---- that is kind of odd

ultravioletbat In reply to tonypapesh [2006-02-17 21:04:31 +0000 UTC]
Thats because firefox highlights using a solid transparent color while IE uses a highlight that skips everyother pixel

This is pretty ingenious. Thanks for the tip.
A couple remarks I feel I should make. You should mention to avoid placing the water mark over large dark or black areas. The watermark is hard to read there. A couple of steps are not spelled out clearly. Took me 15 minutes to figure out where the Blending Mode function was.
A few more screen shots, particularly of the unillustrated steps, should be added. This is for those of us who only know how to use the brush tool in PS and nothing else.

Great tutorial, it really helped me out. But I'm confused on one thing: How do you rasterize the text layer? That's where I got stuck.

This is very helpful, however the invisible watermark doesn't seem to work in browsers like Firefox. Is there a way to make the watermark show up on other browsers that aren't like IE?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
ultravioletbat In reply to Draggyness [2006-02-17 21:10:58 +0000 UTC]
IE is the only browser that uses a highlighting system that skips everyother pixel. I am pretty sure all others use solid color transparencies.

Itโs a pretty neat trick and a step in the right direction. What there needs to be is a technological advancement that allows an imbedded image that acts in a similar fashion.

Hmm, good tutor. I have readen the first one too. I usally make so. But I would like this watermark method too, but I couldn't make it. @_x Could you tell me, what kind of colour the text must have? Maybe that's that I done wrong. I used black.
