This is breath-taking!! Beautiful capture! I grew up watching every episode of Little House on the Prairie many times over and I now have them all on DVD. I love finding the old 1 room school houses. They were used during such a a cool era that I am very fascinated by. My grandmother went to school in a one room schoolhouse. She's 92 years old. Thank you for sharing!! Stunning photo!

thank for taking time to comment.
I too remember that show, and enjoyed it very much.
Out here on the Canadian Prairies, one room school houses have not been closed that long. My wife for instance can remember going to one when she was a girl. She is in her mid 50's now.
Even now there are still small schools, two or three rooms at the most. The one that is close to my home is run by a faith community.
Thanks again

Brilliant, Wayne!
I always enjoyed school for the learning experience and would gladly return for additional study - perhaps a degree in Astronomy this time....

thanks Lili,
What I find interesting about many of these old one room schools, is that all the windows face west. I suppose it was an attempt to capture the afternoon light in winter.

Yes, in the past time they paid attention to the orientation, too.

I like this shot, but the house seems lonely.

Thanks,
I suppose that was my intent. It is in reality located in a community used area. Behind it is a community centre, but I did not want that in the scene, so I hid it.
But you are right, there is a sense of nostalgia about the shot. I am happy is came across.

Great shot. Even the arrangement of the tiles on the roof goes well with the image. The hill in the back is a bit distracting, but it doesn't affect the overall aspect of the image. Good job as usual.

Thanks,
The school is located in a very large valley, avoiding the sides is almost impossible in most shots. Personally though, I like the valley side. Unfortunately, the road which runs straight up the side, had to be cut out of the scene because of other distracting things.

Wonderful photograph. Nice color contrast between the field and sky. Love the detail in the field too.

thanks jasmin.
The picture was quite a challenge to take because of "stuff" in the scene. But I am happy with how it turned out, thought I would have liked its placement to be a bit more to the right.

I wouldn't mind going to this school - but only for a visit. Lol, looking at this photo I feel like I've time-traveled, any minute now the schoolmarm and her pupils will be bounding up the field! Great piece, it has sentiment.

Thanks,
The piece was a bit of a challenge because of additional buildings and grain bins around it. The area ois used by the community, and they have built a community centre. I hid that building behind the school. To the left are a number of grain bins. I would have liked more room on the left of the image, but it was not possible, and to the right of the school, was another building that i cropped out.
All in all it was an enjoyable challenge.

Well you did a great job making this look like it was the only construction around, it looks isolated and like it stands alone upon a vast field. And I think it's positioned rather nicely, it works.

thanks,
thankfully there was not anything more around it, then I might have had to clone things out.
