Description
Over the years the Ford Motor Company, like every other auto manufacturer, has used a number of slogans to popularize and promote their products. Some of the current slogans are:
Ford. Feel the difference.
Ford. Bold moves. (USA)
Built for life in Canada. (Canada)
Built for the road ahead.
Ford. Designed for living. Engineered to last.
Have you driven a Ford lately?
Given the age of this truck, they do seem to hang a round for a long time.
Naming this image was somewhat of a challenge for me so I started with some of the slogans that Ford has been using. Obviously none of them fit easily, so I let the truck, in its setting make the final choices.
I have driven by this Ford many times, and have had a concept of how I view it, but never stopped to photograph it. A couple of weeks ago though, the weather, and time seemed to speak to me, so I made the stop. Initially, what struck me was the foreboding darkness that the storm system had created in the whole scene. The image reminded me of those old movies, where the hero (or perhaps villain, depending upon your perspective) was the out cast. The kid born on the wrong side of the tracks, who falls in love with the βwrongβ girl. (Certainly, her daddy is not happy with the romance.) In any event, this truck, in the setting and with the lighting seemed to suggest that he was a tough character, just looking for a chance to rumble once again.
I hope you enjoy the imagery and are likewise....ready to RUMBLE.
In June 2009 I learned that " Built to Rumble " was selected by the Central and Northern Juried Art Show judges to tour. This is the second image from " An Old Ride Collection " that has been selected by the Jury. The previous selection, " Ridge Road Chevy " [link] toured in 2008.

lovely shot.... do i detect a little HDR work in the picture?? either ways the shot came out fantastic. the level that you have on the truck by kneeling down makes the presence of the storm clouds really bold in the backdrop... nice work..

For a time I thought people were getting tired of old cars, and in a way, I was too. But they just seem to keep finding me, and I can't pass the opportunity....so until they leave me alone, I guess they will just keep happening.

I'd always in awe of the quality of your pictures, not to mention your stellar eye for photography.
Everything looks almost ... so real it's unreal.

I love these old 46 Ford trucks, this one would hae a 239 Flathead V8 and a 4 speed and probably a 2 speed rear end, These trucks were sold primarily in green and cream like this one is because it was mostly leftover paint from the war.
One of the slogans in the mid 40's was "Have you driven a Ford lately?" and another was there's a "Ford in your future", the latter might have also been a good title for this!
This shot gies me feelings of regret for the twin to it I used to own, I sold it to a production company for a telivision series in 1996 (Jake and the Kid) with the promise that I would get first dibs to buy it back after the filming was over, or it was no longer needed, I trusted them to keep their word and when it came time for me to get it back i lost it , and have not been able to find it yet.
I'm very fond of these trucks as my 1946 Ford Glass-top bus is made from the same kid of truck, and it gives me a feeling ofhome and growing up! [link]
Great shot Wayne, good choice using the storm as a background!

thanks....
you really are a wealth of info on old vehicles, and I really appreciate it. I suppose you could just purchase another and rebuild. But I suspect that this would be a costly venture. Sorry to hear about your truck, though Jake and the Kid was a good movie. I may have to watch it again just to see your truck.

I have iron in my blood..... I just live old cars, I breath old cars, I drive old cars too!
There are a few members here who show me their photos before submission just so they can identify the cars correctly, I take it as a big compliment!
I'm not sure why most people think Jake and the Kid was a movie, it was a TV series that ran for 2 years on Global, my bus is in a lot of the episodes in the BG and in episode #4 as they use it for a school field trip! Also in the series is my 37 Dodge Brothers 2-door, my dad's 36 GMC towtruck, a few dozen of my vintage bicycles, and my dad is an extra in 20 out of 26 episodes, and I was in a few as a random kid, and I'm in a ghost costume in the halloween episode!
Yu don't really see much of my truck in the series, it just sits near the back of the garage on the main street.
I think there are a few shots of the set/location from the series on my cardomain page for the bus, it would be marked as such if it's in there!

I think it is a big compliment.
I guess in peoples minds series become movies and probably visa versa over time. At least when you say it, people remember something about it, even if the movie TV series thing gets confused.

A very impressive sky and an equally impressive image.
I've had my Ford Ranger for over 13 years and it's been trouble-free and completely reliable but I still doubt if it will be around as long as this one.

Hi Gil,
thanks for your comment.
I think cars are like any product, they get a reputation, (good or bad) and sometimes no matter what, they can't shake it. I think cameras fall into the same thing.

does it make you sad, like some of the other ones?

Yes, I like it, and no, this one didn't make me sad. Somehow, it looks like it's perfectly happy there. This one almost looks like it's about to speak. You must be rubbing off on me...

yes indeed we all wonders about the quality back then. Since 1995, i have driven a ford. I got 342000 kms out of the first one, and the second one has not disappointed me. I think there has been a great improvement in north American built cars over the years.

The 60's and 70's were bad years for Ford, especially here in the Rust Belt. I have seen some improvement since. My dad has a Ford car and a truck, he likes them. I'll stick with my old Jeeps.

I always wanted a Jeep. The closest I came was a 1970 Jimmy. Built like a tank. Leaf spring all around....rode like a tank. I sold it in 1995 for the same amount I paid for it in 1970.

Jeeps are fun to drive, but not much for creature comforts. I've had 7 different Jeep and will likely buy another when the time comes. I like the new Wranglers, but the price tag and the shitty gas mileage are a big minus.

yes...the Jimmy was great too, but not much for comfort.
The new jeeps have changed a lot though. I still think the ones build before AMC bought out the company were the best though. But that is just opinion...I have no real experience.

Having had pre AMC, AMC and post AMC Jeeps, I'm kind of partial to the post AMC Jeeps, but I would like to have a Willys CJ3B, I just like the looks of those high hoods or a split window pick-up truck.
