Description Given the greyness of the day, I was not initially sure that I could make anything out of this.  Processing took a great deal of time, with multiple false starts and the need to redo sections.  The colours of the scene were quite muted, and the dynamic range of the scene was large. Making it impossible to modify the contrast to give it more spark. Doing so would have destroyed detail in the shadows.  So through a trial and error process, I utilized selective colour to intensify the available colours and then illuminate them.  The gave this image more spark without the damage to the shadows.

My friend Reese and I were taking pictures together, he decided the house was not worth taking, I opted for exposures.  I don't usually see things that he does not, but for once I may have

This appears to have been well built and much lived in.  I always wonder at seeing such places falling into decay.  What happened here, who were these people?  I see the lightening rod with the glass globe still intact.  It also appears that this part of the building had windows and a door at one time.  Why was it closed up?  Those shingles look hand made.  There were certainly not power lines when this house was built.  At some point the roof was reinforced with lateral bracing nailed over the shingles.  That chimney is not decorative, those bricks were no doubt brought out here in a wagon or truck.  I suspect that the harsh winters age wood very rapidly.  There were no trees next to the house when it was new. There is probably a well out back.  This is a most interesting photo.

The house was a bit of a surprise to us.  What we initially saw was the wagon (in the picture with Reese).  When we got out to explore that we noticed the house.  We had to go around to the south side because all but that end was overgrown totally obscuring the house.

There is not way for me to get the history of this house.  Likely the land was sold to another area farmer and the house just left because it was not needed any longer.  This is one of the results of farm size expansion.

That wagon is most interesting.  A shame to let it sit there and rot.  We have similar abandoned farmhouses but usually there are newer ones nearby, and I have never seen one here as well built as that one appears to be.   Sometimes one will see a house that has been added to over and over, a mixture of styles and usually declining in quality with each addition.  Cattle ranches are a different story, it seems that the owner would build one big showy building with several generations all living in it.  For the most part, an abandoned house here is beyond any saving.  I guess the economics are the same, although our principal crop is cotton.

Interesting evaluation. It appears to have a finished attic with windows. I see that there is another building in the back with a garage like door. From the picture subject tags it seem to in Manitoba Canada. Lost history and dreams.

Mr. Benedet posts all these wonderful photos of houses that are in a dream environment.  This evokes an old book entitled Wisconsin Death Trip.  Whoever put this house together really put some work into it.  Unlike around here, (coastal bend Texas) there does not appear to be clusters of newer homes around the old abandoned one.  That is our usually pattern in the farming area.  It looks as if in some places the land quit being worked and the family left.  This house was lived in for quite a while.  I feel the breath of entropy at my back looking at this.  A pleasure talking with you, Sir!
