Description I have watching this house deteriorate for about 10 years.Β  This year, it appears to have been vandalized as evidenced by the broken windows.Β  The loss of shingles on the roof will increase deterioration, but the vandalization is most distressing to me.

That sucks. I wonder what the state of the owner is.

Do you think this place could still be made livable?

Yes...but it would have to be done very soon...like as in this summer

I have visited a similar house at a 'living museum' in Iowa, so I imagined a kitchen and dining room downstairs in back, a parlor and parent's bedroom in front on the ground floor with a couple children's bedrooms above, and attic storage space above in the rear.

you could be right.Β  This "L" shape was very common out here for many years.

it's to badΒ  that it's not picked up by someone and given a new lease on life, That depends of course on the current state of it's condition.

To far going and it's not worth it of course, and then there is the aspect of why it was abandon in the first place?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WayneBenedet In reply to GraphFrite [2019-04-22 21:00:33 +0000 UTC]

Over the years it was used during the summer.Β  But as time went on it because used less and less.Β  I think now it is not being used at all.

I guess if a place dosn't get lived in for even short time it can start to fall into a state of decay, something used as a summer house would have that aspect come winter

if it's not being maintained at all then it doesn't take long for the wildlife to reclaim it

It is, but then that is the way of all things in this world.Β  At the same time, nature does create beauty in the process.

Exactly Wayne....

I was just speaking about the Beauty Process and what I could do with
a building as beautiful as this for my own uses...I am quite selfish that way....Β

these were some special clouds this day they're absolutist awesomeΒ Β  ..its a shame about the windows Β  i figure dumb ass kids being kids or some drunken foolsΒ  ..they weren't shot out were they ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WayneBenedet In reply to notmor [2019-04-20 14:43:18 +0000 UTC]

the clouds have been exceptional this spring Paul.Β  I am not sure why, but I certainly appreciate them.

I don't know how the windows were broken.Β  I make it a rule not to enter these old houses.Β  Firstly because I am no private property and I want to respect that, taking only pictures, but also because sometimes they are not safe and I tend to work alone.

notmor In reply to WayneBenedet [2019-04-21 01:25:18 +0000 UTC]

oh i don't blame you i would never enter a home either for the same reasons as you tho if I'm honest i might try to peer thru a window for a look see tho haha..

The insults and vagaries of time and abandonment.Β  Β It still looks majestic in its own way, especially with the wide spaces and peppering of clouds.Β Β

Yes, the house is very nice.Β  I especially like the "L" shape with the west facing entrance.Β  The house is also located on a small hill, so it has a bit of a view all around it.

WayneBenedet In reply to Erdbeerstern [2019-04-20 14:39:39 +0000 UTC]

yes, but it is common as farms get larger and fewer people are needed to work the land.
