sorry, in this case it won't happen.
This particular image uses a technique in which a "part" represents the "whole". I don't expect that everyone will like it, bit it is a very important technique for photography, and one that is hard for people just starting to get the hang of. lol...for that matter, i am nit even sure i get the hang of it.

well that is good to know.
I have a few others that I plan to post over the next while. I have also been planning a trip to the "grave yard" Given your preference for the "whole thing", I have no difficulty keeping that in mind. many of the shotsin my gallery have been inspired by comments from other artisits, so lets see what happens with this one as it "rattles" around with the brain cell.

I have gotten a number of comments like that. It seems that some people believe that they can tell everything that has happened to an image by looking at it. In my expereince, which is only 35 years, that is not possible. Now I would never consider myself a good processor, and I barely even consider myself a good photographer, but one thing I have learned is not to make judgements. There is also the artistic element which is very important to me. (It is something I spend a lot of time teaching my students because it is a very important element that goes beyond the technical into the soul)
OK...now i should stop babbling. I should have just ignored the comment. the image came out like I wanted it to come out post processing. That does not mean it is perfect or could not be improved some more but it is what i did from an artistic perspective.
In any event, I was kind of amused, and I am very appreciative of your perspective and support. Sometimes the confirmation that something is OK, is helpful. (I did say OK...not perfect....that level is just beyond me).

without saying how you should have edited it, i find that kinda rude. Other then tweaking pics a little i don't think we should be using ps on pics, or it should be submitted as a manipulation.
How you see it is what's important and if we see it too all the better

PS is a grey area i think. Some images need it to show their best. For instance, clouds can be brought out with proper use. Its all there in the original, it is just that the technical side does not expand to include all of the image detail captured. So for those kinds of things, I see it as valuable tool because it just brings out the original detail of the shot. however, it is a manipulation if the image has items edited in or if it is signficantly changed from the original. In my opinion The Wheel of Time [link] is a manipulation because it is not at all faithful to the original. nothing was added, but the colours and contrasts were heavily manipulated. I am not sure how I categorized it, but I also did not hide the fact that I played with it a lot.
So really this a a very grey area. I am not sure how to answer it. Processing is a reality. Even in film days, i sent images in for processing with very detailed instuctions of colours, flashing, dodging...all sorts of darkroom work. From my perspective, what PS has done for me is bring my darkroom to my computer. but as with all tools, they can be over used. I try to guard against that, but sopmetimes the creative side needs i think to take over.
So i guess what I am trying to say is that from my perspective PS is just a tool. In and of itself it is neither wrong nor right. but as with all tools, it can be applied incorrectly. i was trained to shoot for realism. I was trained to know and to account for the trade offs in photography (the limitations of the tools) and I have learned to come to love them. What PS does in my view is reduce some of the trade offs which brings the technology more in line with the actual reality that we can see.

i would have responded the same as you did though, i don't think you were all that rude. A comment like that isn't constructive as is without the 'how' or the 'why'. It sounds more like as insult like that.

yes i agree, the comment was not helpful, because it did not say anything to help determine the reasons for it. But still, it is good to know your perceptions on my comment back. it is important for me to respond appropriately, thought I am not sure I always do. i also like to have content when i make a comment. otherwise it just does not make sense to me.
