Description
Named for the location in which this beautiful lady is located. This is a 1941 Chev originally owned by Charley Orchard. It has a 216 inline 6-cylinder engine with a 3-speed transmission.
"So bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die." "

this was an old homestead, so all of the stuff was probably used until the family moved. In some cases, people left their land because of hard times, they really had no choice, and in this case, it was just pasture, so it continued to be used as such. So I suppose cleaning it up was not mush of an issue. I am though happy it was all left, because as you say, it makes for great pictures.

Sounds like a reasonable reason..Must have been hard for them.

the west is a bard place, economic down turns hit hard out here, because there is little buffer. If crops fail, so do farms, and families. And crops do tend to fail every year. As farms have gotten larger, this threat is less, because they can be more diversified, something that was not possible for small family farms.

I almost envie you for such shooting locations.
What I like about the picture is that the shy seems to fly fast above us as time flies as well.
However the old lady stands there immobilised and it seems like she's trying to say something.

Thanks a lot for taking time to visit.

This is so crisp. I feel like I could almost reach out and feel the rusty flaking off.

I believe I used a tripod. The difference is quite significant sometimes.

Indeed. A good tripod is next on my list of photography purchases. I have a little crappy one that's barely worth using right now.

it is a good investment that can be very expensive. Try not to buy a cheap one. A well built tripod will last a lifetime. I bought mine in 1980. It still works great.

I don't have a problem with people looking at my work and learning from me, ideas as well as technique... God only know how much I do that in other peoples galleries, yours included. Obviously I do not "take" anything, except new ideas. So if that is what you propose, then I think that this is exacltly why we post.... so that we can learn form each other and generate new ideas and techniques.

Sorry, like I said, I can be relentlessly English sometimes.
Something that is exceptional or excellent can be referred to as a cracker as in "She's a bit of a cracker" or Cracking bit of cheese Grommit"

WayneBenedet In reply to horai [2009-11-25 17:24:09 +0000 UTC]
lol...
Yes indeed.... your pettycoat was showing.
Thanks for the explanation Bernie.
There are many of these kinds of sayings amongst the Mennonite people (I am married to one and surrounded by them). Often they get carried into English in a direct translation.... for example "sheet stremp"....(spelling is not relevant, the language has no real written form) literally it means shitty socks, but the meaning is that one is afraid... a fraidy cat so to speak. I think it related to the idea of being so afraid that you poop you pants and then of course there is the inevitable run off.... to the socks. lol.... Its a little gross, but many of these kinds of sayings are quite base. I rather love these colloquialisms

horai In reply to WayneBenedet [2009-11-25 19:41:59 +0000 UTC]
I love them too and sheet stremp is a goody. My favourite is one from my mother who was Cumbrian. It went "douse the glim" which means turn off the light or put out the candle.
