Is this a slope on those flat prairies of yours?
The landscape is reminiscent of the South African Highveld - vast areas of gently rolling hills, with farmsteads speckled in little valleys surrounded by a cluster of trees.
I like the quiet, peaceful feel you have here.

the flatness of the prairie is really a myth.Β  Indeed, there are areas that are dead pan flat, but that is not the total or even true picture.Β  For example, from south western Manitoba all the way to thew rocky mountains the land is rolling with deep ravines and even significant hills.Β  This is probably a truer picture of what the prairie is, but it is often not known about.Β  (The really flat Canadian prairie starts in south central Manitoba and runs in a north west angle through Saskatchewan and Alberta.Β  This is where the transcontinental highway runs, and a as a result, is mostly what people see, and believe about this area of Canada).Β  Highways further south are far more scenic.

It's almost sad, that these buildings are so dilapidated, and run down. I wonder what drove people from them. Changing economy? Moving to the city to find work? Old couples, no children, at least no there to take the place over. Beautiful places, with what looked to once be beautiful homes, not being reclaimed by the earth. You always take great shots.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WayneBenedet In reply to Swiddy [2016-08-13 01:13:14 +0000 UTC]

I think the reasons are similar all over North America.Β  When these homes were built, farms were smaller, often a quarter or half section could support a family.Β  Today with modern machinery, farmers can work up to 6 sections of land and corporate farms have even more.Β  So what happens is that people retire and sell their land to another farmer.Β  The house is not needed any longer so it sits vacant.
