Sometimes,
I long to return to the old days,
To see the stars that once lit the skies
Of a pure, untainted heart.

This painting was inspired by 孫燕姿(Stephanie Sun)'s rendition of the Taiwanese folk song, 天黑黑.
The lyrics are a wonderful combination of nostalgia and yearning. Here they are with my own rough translation/interpretation:

我愛上讓我奮不顧身的一個人　
我以為這就是我所追求的世界
然而橫衝直撞　被誤解被騙　
是否成人的世界背後　總有殘缺

我走在每天必須面對的分岔路　
我懷念過去單純美好的小幸福
愛總是讓人哭　讓人覺得不滿足　
天空很大卻看不清楚　
好孤獨

"I fell in love with someone who made me brash and careless
I thought that this was the world I had yearned for
But I was just being reckless
And I was misunderstood and deceived
Is it true that the world of grownups is always this flawed?"

"I walk the forked road I must encounter every day of my life
I miss the simple beauty of the good ol' times
Love always makes you weepy and unsatisfied
The sky is vast, but I can barely see it
I'm all alone..."

I just really miss those days when life was simpler and depression wasn't a constant companion.
