I couldn't draw a hand to save my life. This might help though.

To be fair to the people at mainframe entertainment, that part of the thumb is really hard to make a model of. I know .

I figured there had to be a reason beyond 'they're bad at hands'. I still find it really noticeable.

I meant a mechanical model of. Take a look at your own hand and try to picture where you would put all the moving parts.

Dunno, I tend to put in a rounded piece that I figure is something like a cross between a hinge and a ball bearing when I draw the robots. No idea if it's feasible in real life.

A hinge bit might work, sort of like Tidal Wave's thumbs on the toy. Did they used to do something like that in the Dreamwave pictures?

Like this? [link]

Considered it. Not feasible. It wouldn't properly hold guns or pretty much anything else. Neither would my hand, but that was a prototype I made years ago before I figured out I need to draw out my stuff before I model it.

Now that's HANDy! Truth be told I see a lot of people don't realize how hard hands are to draw. Heck, Rob Lifield or however it's spelled can't draw hands to save his life. I think they counted 12 fingers on someone's hand once.
I think if people worked with drawing the fist more they'd remember that flexy part of the thumb more. It's more accentuated in a fist.

Ah, hands! Every tip and trick is valuable when it comes to drawing these challenging bits of anatomy.

Thank you for taking the time to document your artistic process! :3
