Description Highly unpopular opinion incoming. If you can't handle a simple opinion or are here to be a self-righteous zealot, please leave now. Think before you comment, please.

What is it with people and being irrationally obsessed with/willing to fight with others over cartoons (regardless of their country of origin)? It's non-stop drama, especially here on deviantArt.

For crying out loud, cartoon characters are fictional; cartoon shows are simply mass-entertainment. There's no need to have meltdowns over the littlest things, nor is there a need to start harassment over someone who simply doesn't care for/dislikes certain series or whatever. People need to calm down, seriously.

Yes, I know some live-action TV fandoms are just as rabid, but wow. I don't even have to point fingers at certain fandoms. We all know what I'm talking about.

It's just TV, everyone. If you don't like something in a show, fine. Life goes on. The world doesn't stop spinning because of a change in a cartoon or whatever.

Maybe it's just me and being old and frumpy. I've just never really got into any shows in depth. I generally don't care enough to put all of my attention into things like that these days.

I agree!
Every fandom is ruining our favorite cartoons!
Like how people say: "OLD SPONGEBOB IS BETTER THAN NEW SPONGEBOB! YADDA YADDA YADDA!"
I just think that those idiots should go take a hike and move on with their lives!
Jezz, The internet these days!

I'm a cartoon fan since I'm majoring in animation. I've seen people get worked up for modern cartoons or old cartoons, acting like one is superior over the other or act like a cartoon is absolute trash. That kind of people makes fandoms look terrible.

I love cartoons, but some people on the internet fight over them a whole lot(MLP,Steven universe,TTG)and it honestly makes you look foolish arguing over something as silly as that

I'm a cartoon fan myself tbh. I like cartoons and animation since I like to draw. But nowadays it's not just cartoon fans. People in general (especially it being 2016) get worked up over everything nowadays.

Because they deserve the same amount of respect that live action shows and movies get. Especially if you pay your hard earned money for something shitty. You have a right to complain. Also there's a thing called "critics", maybe you haven't heard of them.

Modern day purists in a nutshell....I've seen more modern day cartoon fans act like they're 2 years old whenever someone doesn't like modern day cartoons. News flash, modern purists-not everyone is going to praise and love your precious modern day cartoons. Take off your modern day blinders and stop calling names that make you look like you're in preschool.

I watch Mr.Enter for how funny he reacts to Animated Atrocities. Admirable Animations... Meh, I tend to steer away from there. They are just hit as funny as Animated Atrocities. And I would NEVER, I MEAN NEVER. Would insult anyone who likes modern SpongeBob.

I am alone huge fan of cartoons and i have certain favorites, but i respect if someone don't like it, as long as is respectful towards me. I mean, fight if cartoon ( or any other TV show )  is good or not, is like fighting about food... and i am obess of both! -_-

47ness [2013-09-23 08:26:48 +0000 UTC]

Well, the short answer is Real Life is too depressing and too boring for a lot of people to handle so cartoons become their one source of joy.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The longer answer is the advent of the Internet has created a phenomenon where extreme, hyperbolic views suddenly get far more attention than they would have in a normal functioning society and suddenly all the nuts are able to come in contact with one another on a regular basis. It becomes easy for individuals to delude themselves into thinking they're part of some all-encompassing, all-knowing clique because they're being bombarded with all kinds of soothing affirmation online, whereas in real life they're barely able to keep up with actual social skills.

Also, it's probably not fair to assume everyone starts on some equal baseline; people are born with learning disorders or rotten situations and maybe- just maybe cartoons are a way for them to cope. But yeah, to your point, if they really can help it, it'd behoove them to shut that stuff off once in a while and focus on real life.

Pretty much the Adventure Time and MLP fandom. I don't like Adventure Time or MLP that much for my little reasons, no biggie, but when ever someone asks and I say "yeah not my kind of cartoon", they flip their shit and go on about how I "just don't understand it". I've seen it enough to get a good understanding of both shows and I just don't like them-- or "not care for" would be a better thing to say.

Idk people are really defensive about what they like, sometimes. I don't too invested in a lot of TV shows either. I mean, I watch TV to just give me something to do, not because my life depends on it.

WaywardSoothsayer In reply to VXYXV [2013-09-15 12:44:24 +0000 UTC]

Oh indeed.  It's just odd though, I wonder why so many cartoon fandoms have such atrocious fans that'll go apeshit at the drop of a hat.
