Description
...A shot from an urbex mission a few years ago. One of the expansive upper floors of a massive abandoned factory complex. The lighting here was pretty cool and the textures of rust, cement, dirt, and old paint made this place irresistible to me. I can't explain what draws me to this type of shooting.. maybe it gives me a break from the wilderness where most of my time is spent

Scenes like this always make me think of Manic Miner on the specturm. I imagine this is what the environment would look like in a remake

Captivating and intriguing photo--I might have called it "Steampunk HDR."

a lot of urbex shooters use HDR.. brings out the textures of these grungy places.. I hadn't really made the steampunk connection but I see your point

I've been trying to tone down my HDR processing lately but I'm starting to think that artificial structures like this place cry out for the HDR treatment; my mistake, arguably, was using it with nature shots.

it all depends on your style.. I actually beta-tested photomatix back when it came out and basically pioneered the effect here at dA .. haven't looked back.. I initially took a lot of flack for it because it's not to everyone's taste and is frequently overdone..

Well, that was my problem--overdoing it. You'll notice some of those shots in the earliest section of my gallery; some of those I'm going to revisit to tone them down. Others, I'll leave. I'm certainly delighted to have the option of the software at hand, though, to be sure!

It probably makes you appreciate the wilderness and how things were before we got our hands on it
