At 479 meters long the Prometheus class Dreadnought is one of the largest vessels in the Terran Alliance Unified Fleet. So far only two vessels of the class, The Prometheus, And The Kronos. exist. These two advanced warships are designated as Fleet command ships, and form the core of of a line of battleships and dreadnoughts intended to counter any direct assault on Terran space by a large scale fleet formation.

Dense, cutting edge armor, heavy shielding, reinforced hulls, and numerous other internal and external modification make the hull one of the most rugged, ever constructed by the Terran Alliance Executive. It's powerful main battery of multiple Meson, and particle spinal mount cannon, matched with massive batteries of plasma, fusion, and ion cannon give the ship an offensive punch unmatched by any smaller vessel. Combined into a single ship these features make the vessel a fearsome combatant.

Each ship costs as much as a squadron of battleships, and takes the combined output of several major nations to construct, however these two single ships match the power of a fully operational orbital defense station, and it's compliment of fighters, and strike craft. With the added bonus of being able to transit quickly to counter enemy assaults before they reach the core of the TAE.

Background:
Following the third Incursion, and subsequent scattered fighting as Najuhlim forces scatted after their defeat At the Fourth battle of Jupiter, the Terran alliance Executive enacted a policy of aggressively countering threats before they penetrated the outer frontier of Terran controlled Space. despite the defeat of a massive Najuhlim fleet in less that two weeks after initial hostilities erupted. The incursion dragged on as small groups of Najuhlim raided and harassed human held lord for several years until the Terran Alliance, and its allies could replace the ships lost in the initial engagement and rebuild the shattered frontier defense forces which had blocked access to the inner regions of the TAE.

The incursion led to over one billion casualties scattered over dozens of worlds, and several major military campaigns. A disturbing percentage of the casualties were civilian, a fact that led to a total revision of TAE policy. To prevent such heavy civilian losses. The TAE Unified Defense Fleet was authorized to construct a heavy battle fleet level force which would be anchored at core locations, and respond direct to hostile strikes, rather than scattered warships dealing with enemy incursions at the squadron and task force level, while a battle fleet was assembled form scatted forces.

to Serve as the command ships, and primary fire base of Future Fleets, the Dreadnought class warship was reintroduced to the Terran Fleet structure. Heavier, and more rugged than previous battleships the Dreadnought type was intended to provide devastation support fire, and precision long range fire on enemy vessels. Unlike battleships the ships are purpose built to serve as command ships. They have advanced sensors, electronic warfare, communications, systems included in their core design.

The first Series of Dreadnought were potent ships anchored by the Deity Class,"Heavy Battleships" and Several other Interim designs. However the first true Dreadnought were the Prototype Titan class warships. Six Prototype Titans were constructed with one being lost in battle, a Second "the Infamous "Kronos" being lost due to theft by It's own AI. these prototype warships proved potent, but flawed as a reliance of at the time cutting edge technology to compensate for short cuts taken in design and tactical employment led to several serious incidents where the ships were unable to effectively counter enemy tactics.

The Prometheus was designed using lessons learned from previous series dreadnoughts to seamlessly integrate its various systems into a formidable fighting ship. The smaller Olympus class dreadnought which has served as the primary dreadnought for the fleet for 40 years, has been slated to be refurbished for more direct combat roles, as The newer Prometheus types take over fleet command roles.
