There isn't any good place to talk about Undertale (besides the one that talks about YIIK) so I'll do it here. I once made up an OC in Undertale. Wanna hear about it?

Alright. Well, I thought of this one quite a while ago but didn't feel like sharing it until now. I'll start with the name.
My OC is a monster named Destan (French for "by the still waters"). A warrior fish monster who's also water ninja and the older twin brother of Undyne.Β

Yep. By my statements, he is water ninja (the only one in the Underground, in fact). By his appearance, Destan is a humanoid fish monster. And as Undyne's sibling, he sports many features like she does; fins, scales, webbed hands and feet, yellow eyes, sharp teeth, yellow eyes, and he's also a redhead to boot (he sports long hair but it's slightly shorter and it's messier than Undyne's longer and luscious hair). In fact, what's certainly interesting that, due to being Undyne's twin brother, he looks almost identical to her in certain aspects, especially the face. The only difference between him and Undyne is that he has a slightly more masculine physique (a muscular chest, slightly toned abdomen, and having slightly bulkier arms and legs), though, it would be hard to tell when he's in his ninja garb and Undyne is in her armor. Also he has two eyes while Undyne only has one (and an eyepatch),Β
Being a ninja, he does in fact wear a dark blue ninja garb that helps him blend in darker areas and especially when in water. And it's design is based on Ryu Hayabusa's but less leather and a bit more fabric.

Oh that he/she would because he's as difficult, if not more so, than his sister (depending on the routes) when Frisk faces him in battle.
Like every Boss Monster, he can use magic and SOUL Modes against Frisk which Destan uses it in the most versatile way possible (in the non-cheating kind of way, unlike Sans during Genocide). Like Undyne who can create spears, he has the ability to create weapons with his magic which he constructs with ease and in many ways to their fullest potential. Being a ninja, he mostly creates kunai and shuriken. Though, he does have actual ninja gear not made by his magic which is an ancient Katana (a real one that came from the surface) that he always carries with him in his sheath and draws it into battle, while carrying lots of smoke bombs and paper bombs for offensive and defensive purposes. Being a ninja, Destan is the fastest and most agile Boss Monster in the game which means he's the only known monster (besides Genocide Sans) to actually dodge Frisk/Chara's attacks (making him technically the second fastest compared to Genocide Sans since he just dodges all of Genocide Frisk/Chara's attacks with ease until he tires out while Destan can sometimes get hit which is why he has plenty of decent Defense and HP to make up for it).

So Destan avoids the typical βfragile speedster/glass cannonβ problem that ninjas typically fall victim to.

Yep. He averts/downplays the typical trope of the fragile speedster/glass cannon since he read plenty of manga and watched plenty of anime with Alphys and UndyneΒ (though, he prefers Manga) that shows lots of enemies/characters. being speedsters or high level attackers, typically have such bad defenses they are pretty much fodder. He even lampshades it by calling out on why most monsters in the underground have little to no defenses if they are gonna get hit anyways (yet, he acknowledges Mettaton's DF which foreshadows you can't beat him at his normal form.)Β
"You should have the decency to possess good DEF that will help you in the long run. Shielding you from being another step closer to your demise while it gives you a chance to counterattack. Even my Sister should learn a thing or two about that." (Neutral/Pacifist)/"*Solemn* If Undyne just listened to me about her subpar DEF... maybe she would still be here.... *Tranquil Fury* Heed my words human. Your AT and HP alone will not protect you from me. (Neutral if you kill Undyne)/"What's the point of having all that high amount of AT when your DEF is laughable in comparison? Are you that overconfident or are you just being ignorant your DEF doesn't matter? If you really want to slay me that badly, than use everything you have to raise your Stat to the fullest." (Genocide, if you don't have or used any items to raise your DEF)

I had him in my head for a while so I had a lot to think about. Also, his SOUL Mode is also Green like Undyne (similar to how both Sans and Papyrus SOUL Modes are Blue/Jump, due to the skelebros are brothers so since Destan and Undyne are twins, they also have the same kind of SOUL mode). Though, Destan's Green SOUL Mode is a bit different than Undyne's. While Undyne's Green Mode is Shield, Destan's mode is called Deflect. The big difference is that, unlike Undyne's approach of making you take her spears head on with a shield, Destan takes it to the next level that you have to parry and deflect his oncoming projectiles, like his Shurikens and Kunai, and especially many of his variable sword strike techniques which take lots of good timing to deflect his attacks.Β
Destan: Since you've met and battled my sister. I suppose you should recognize and memorize what Green SOUL Mode does, do you not?Β

*Frisk deflects many of his attacks but he failed to fully deflect one despite blocking it head on*
Destan: I see you got a ways to go until you can master your skills to the fullest. You're still a bud that has yet to fully bloom.
Well more like a sword Frisk holds when doing Deflect in Destan's case. Also, here how it goes. Destan's attacks do about the same amount of damage of Undyne's. Difference is though you have to time it and press the attack button in order to deflect his attacks completely and suffer no damage. If you manage to block but unable to deflect his kunai/shuriken/sword strikes in time, than the damage is reduced by half but you still lose health in the process.

In a way, he kinda is. Since he has trained a lot in his life from a young age, even before Asgore took Undyne under his wing. Even developing martial arts that he got from reading manga/watching anime, fighting simulating fighting robots built by Alphys, and especially learning plenty of techniques from Asgore himself (yes, along with Undyne, Destan also was trained by the King of Monsters for other nifty tricks in the ways of combat).
In a sense, he's been holding back on Frisk in the Neutral but especially in the Pacifist route (I'll explain that during his personality, origins, and how he affects the plot of Undertale).... go down the Genocide route and Frisk/Chara better watch out for what happens when they kill so many innocent monsters and especially his beloved sister. In fact, Destan never draws his sword on anyone unless absolutely necessary (which means he draws it on Frisk/Chara).

epicvictory2025 In reply to Wcher999 [2020-02-11 04:43:59 +0000 UTC]
Yep. He'd sort of works as a compromise between Genocide Undyne and Sans. While he's not as strong as Sans (at least gameplay wise, since Sans constantly spams his attacks, breaking some of the rules in how fights go, casually dodging, and especially his Karma Retribution), Destan is arguably the hardest boss played in the traditional sense of the Genocide Route.Β Making it a bit justified as Genocide Undyne was the only other boss (outside of Sans) to actually give Frisk/Chara a challenge while most other bosses usually die in one hit (especially poor Neo Mettaton who never had the chance to show his moves) or instantly die without even having the chance to fight. In this case, he has the highest stats of any boss monster, even Undyne in her Undying form and Asgore himself. Also, he uses his Determination to give him his ultimate form in battle but he manages to use it directly and activates it upon command. Though, he's is highly aware using it is suicide but he uses it anyways as a last resort to even attempt to stop Chara.Β
Destan: *After he's defeated and his sword shatters to pieces, while his determination that gave him his super form causes him to melt and disintegrate after too much damage from Chara* ..... It has seemed to me ...... after giving my vow to stop you..... giving it my all without holding back.... even forfeiting my own body not suited for this power and already breaking down.... So I could unlock this form, break my limits, and reach greater heights just so I could face you..... but in the end...... I just can't stop you...... as I told you before.....you're neither human nor monster.... you're just a vile DEMON who kills for their own pleasure, having no mercy or remorse to the innocent. I hope you're satisfied..... because if you think this is over and you've won.... you better think twice for what's up ahead.... because your sins will be judged by HIM... and once HE'S reached his verdict in judging you.... HE will take the role of the executioner....*He melts even further that he's barely recognizable* Asgore.... Papyrus.... Alphys.... Muffet.... UNDYNE.... *Tears role down his face*..... forgive me..... *Disintegrates*

π: 0 β©: 1
epicvictory2025 In reply to Wcher999 [2020-02-13 04:26:12 +0000 UTC]
It sure was. Just by reading his speech, you could tell he was VERY desperate to fight and beat Chara, much like an anime character and was very distraught when he lost and his ultimate form that costed his life was for nothing... that's why his final words were a stab to the heart. And what's even sadder? His decision of helping Alphys evacuate the Hotlands and much of the Core just so Undyne can buy them time. Destan wanted to help her... but she told him stay and help Alphys because she doesn't want Alphys (who we already know she's in love with) to be left alone (I'll get to Destan's relationship parts later on too) so Destan hesitantly agreed and did... but once he and Alphys watched Undyne fight Chara and lost in the end.... Destan instantly regretted and wracked with guilt for listening to Undyne when he could've helped her... and now she's gone. Eventually, after helping Alphys evacuate most of everyone.... Destan's guilt eventually overpowered his sense of duty and decided to go back and face Chara himself.... much to Alphys pleas to not go back since he apparently doesn't stand a chance but all he did was tell Alphys to be brave and not let her own guilt and fear overtake her. And with one last embracing hug.... Destan heads back and faces Chara... but not before he meets Sans and the two had a small chat what's happening.
Well, on to his personality; As we could tell by certain parts of his texts, it's safe to assume he's pretty much the polar opposite of Undyne. Or you could say he's the Blue Oni to Undyne's red.

epicvictory2025 In reply to Wcher999 [2020-02-13 05:14:53 +0000 UTC]
Oh yes. He also takes a part in the date with Alphys just to get help her to be with Undyne. Thing is, Alphys apparently has an unintentional, one sided, crush on Destan. Well, many can't blame her because he's the twin brother of Undyne and boy is he quite a handsome fish (and yes, many girl monsters of the underground know him well and also got the hots for him, including Bratty and Catty) that Alphys can't stop blushing every time she looks at him... which is one reason why he wears his mask.
Mettaton: *If Frisk/The Player chooses Destan as the answer to one of Mettaton's question on who Alphys has a crush on*Β Tsk tsk tsk. I already know you have an obsession with anime, Alphys.... but I never knew you would take it to the NEXT level that it worries me! Yes, there's without a doubt that dear Alphys has the hots for Captain of the Royale guard's twin brother and Underground's only water ninja. Destan. And who can blame her? Pretty much every other girl in the the entire Underground knows his name and value him as their perfect dreamboat. Those luscious scales, those rock hard muscles, the badass skills of a ninja, and especially that handsome face he hides behind that mask of his that any girl would risk DYING to get a glimpse of it. *Poor Alphys was blushing like mad that she can't take it*

epicvictory2025 In reply to Wcher999 [2020-02-13 15:32:26 +0000 UTC]
Shyren, as obvious, has a crush on Destan too but she's far too shy and reclusive to admit it. Though, she does like singing a lot more enthusiastically if she meets and even talks to him.
Destan: *On the phone if Frisk calls him in a certain location in Waterfall* The Waterfalls; the perfect place to those who want to seclude themselves from the more heavily populated areas of the Underground, just to feel at peace with themselves. Shyren, a talented singer that I know of, usually likes to keep things to herself and be alone, so she can practice her wonderful talent of singing.... too bad she's too shy to sing to anyone else and things got even harder for her after her sister "fell down".Β
Also, another girl that really likes him is Muffet whom she calls him her "Favorite Customer". Well, that's because Destan LOVES her Spider Bake Sale products, especially her Spider Donuts and Spider Cider which he often buys after a hard day of training. Heck, he buys them so often that Muffet lowers the price of her products only to him since they would be easier for him to buy... and so she can see him in person more often and tries to flirt with him (though, Destan politely talks to her either way, cause he's not interested in romance). Heck, for gameplay reasons, if you befriend Destan in the Pacifist Route, Muffet will lower the prices of her Spider products at the same price in Hotland like they are in the Ruins.
Destan: *If Frisk calls him in the middle of her bake sale close enough to Muffet* The Spider Bake Sale? Well aren't you the lucky customer to stumble across it which sells the BEST donuts and cider the Underground has to offer. I usually stop there after a hard days worth of training just to grab a bite.
Muffet: Ahuhuhu~ Is that my Favorite Customer I hear? Let me talk to him and inform him I'm baking a specially made Spider Cake with extra Sprinkle Flies just for him~
Destan: ..... I'll stop by when I got time.
Yes. Destan has a major sweet tooth.

Oh that he would. He even likes Asgore's pie too and makes a subtle connection between him and Toriel.
Destan: I can still remember, back when me and Undyne were just kids, Asgore always tried to make us the "perfect" butterscotch cinnamon pie, after we finished our sparring practices... yet, every single time he makes and serves them.. he always seemed unsatisfied and blames himself that he can't make them "perfect", despite that there was nothing wrong with them. Hell, I even asked for seconds. At first, I couldn't understand why.... it's like he's being too hard on himself trying to replicate something that seems missing to him. That's when I countered the mysterious woman from the ruins.... I never met her in person but I heard her voice and she wanted to share her pies that she made... which was butterscotch cinnamon... once I accepted, I've never had a pie that delicious in my life.... something seems amiss with her, Asgore, and their pies.....

epicvictory2025 In reply to Wcher999 [2020-02-16 02:02:02 +0000 UTC]
Yep. Sure would be. In fact, it's one of the possible options to befriend him in the Pacifist run. But befriending him won't be easy because there's one thing that involves all of this.Because he plays the keyrole in the ways of friendship and trust in Undertale since... he has another secret ability which I'm about to say in a bit.
He has a ratherΒ sad past that involves him... and how Undyne lost her eye. It was accidental but it's mostly because he blamed himself for being too paranoid on one thing... his mysterious ability to see into the future. Well, not exactly. His ability inconsistent, random, can't control it willfully, and it doesn't give him specific details of what his ability is trying to tell him about a possible future... only vague and silhouetted details that barely mean something that he has to guess what it means to him. For example, when he was a kid... the only thing he suddenly seen (that's also the first time his foresight was first used) was Undyne screaming in pain and her left eye socket is bleeding and her eye is gone... but it never tells him HOW she lost it... and so, being young and not understanding how things works... he got obsessed protecting Undyne from danger of losing her eye that it was getting annoying to her... to the point that, one day, caused a horrible accident where Undyne lost her eye.... Destan took it real hard on himself and cursed himself to fall for his ability to prevent it when it happened anyways. Undyne got over it eventually and didn't blame her brother because he wanted to protect her... which is why she trained hard so she can be Captain of the Royal Guard, to be awesome and so Destan doesn't have to always protect her.
And so.... Destan kept his ability a secret, never to reveal it to anyone, not even his sister, only using it by himself to protect him home and those he loves... which is why he doesn't easily trust Frisk at first... because a possible future he sees... is a silhouette of a child that looks like Frisk.... except the only thing he sees are red eyes and a creepy smile while wielding a knife... suddenly giving off a hellish screaming laugh while swinging that knife... and everything goes black which scared Destan.... and this is why it's gonna take a lot of effort and time for Frisk to make Destan eventually trust them that they aren't what his future vision that showed him a possible outcome.

epicvictory2025 In reply to Wcher999 [2020-02-16 02:43:54 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. This makes it a bit sadder in hindsight of everything I've said about him. Yet, thankfully, it doesn't always constantly spam his inner thoughts with many possible bad futures... it also show plenty of possible good futures too (which makes him rather skeptical if he should trust Frisk or not). It's kinda like Sans knowledge to timelines and the SAVE function and can only read Frisk's expression to determine a SAVE/RESET may have happened. But Destan can vaguely see many possible future outcomes depending on how many times Frisk RESETS, SAVES, and LOADS the game while also depending how many monsters they kill and the decisions they makes. Making it a roller coaster ride for the poor fish warrior to constantly trying to figure out and decide if he should just kill Frisk to save the timeline (Genocide/Chara) or spare them and be their friend that also saves the timeline (Neutral/Flowey, Pacifist/Asriel)
Also, he can only see possible futures of major events that are extremely crucial and impactful (Like his sister losing her eye, Genocide, Pacifist, or many variable Neutral events), he can't see futures that are too minor or non threatening that they don't effect everything much (like killing minor and few monsters, certain activities that Frisk does to befriend the monsters, etc.).
Basically, I made Destan quite a complex character in Undertale itself that he could possibly even be legit as a canon character.
