Reference of my anthro Red Kangaroo character, Joel.

Hair: Short and parted towards the middle, usually tussled and slightly unkempt.
Facial Hair: Scruffy chin fur.
Fur: Short, only extends on his elbows and the back of his thighs. Coloration is a sandy red with darker russet markings on his back and upper part of his face with a cream facial markings as well as underbelly and extremities. Has russet freckles on his cheeks.
Build: Very tall and muscular, legs are more muscular as is his tail.
Occupation: Bouncer/Kickboxer

A fearless fellow, Joel rarely backs down from a challenge even if the odds are not in his favor. Some consider him foolhardy while others consider him courageous. If there is danger, Joel is sure to be looking at it dead in the eye. Being a daredevil is one of this kangaroo's core traits. Cheerful and optimistic, the glass is always half-full in Joel's world. Even during the darkest times and circumstances Joel is the one who will find some sort of silver lining. It is rare to see Joel with anything other than a smile on his face, which can greatly annoy those with a more realistic or pessimistic outlook on affairs.

Whether it is in sports or life, Joel is ambitious and does not take losing very well. Anything and everything is a competition to the energetic kangaroo from a walk down the block to a boxing match he will take on a challenge if it means beating someone else. His sense of humor goes hand in hand with his bright personality. Sarcastic and dry, his form of comedy involves off-color comments and jabs at whoever is in his company at the time. Without much of a filter he can get very offensive, very quickly if in the wrong company. With lighter-hearted folk he can spend hours just going back and forth with the jokes and roasts of his companions.

Unrestrained and full of untapped energy he can be incredibly rowdy and quick to make a scene. Loud and rambunctious, it is rare when he isn't speaking volumes above the rest of the room and often draws attention to himself from his voice alone. His statuesque height and massive tail also come into play, especially if he is flailing about. He's been kicked out quite a few places from how destructive he can be. Unfortunately his sense of humor and brazenness have often gotten him in trouble. It is rare he will be respectful, as he simply does not take anything seriously. His sunshiny outlook and somewhat impish sense of humor blinds him to whatever situation is occurring, even if it is dire. The world is just one big joke to Joel, and he'd rather keep it that way.

History: Born in a big city, Joel was solely raised by his mother as his father left the picture shortly before his birth. Being an only child he and his mother were quite close, he was very much a protective mother's boy. As he grew older he slowly grew more aware of the fact they had less money and possessions compared to those around them, his mother worked several jobs to make ends meet. Joel would do his best to help as he got older, doing chores and yardwork for people in order to help his mother out. Little did he know his mother would simply set aside the money he gave her into an account meant for him. Their economic situation made Joel a target for bullying in school and his scrawniness as a child did not help. Throughout all of elementary school he dealt with this, however when middle school came so did his courage...and growth spurt. He was now bigger and a bit braver than those who tormented him, and that was enough to scare them off. From then on out he vowed to get stronger so he could protect himself and those he cared about, and so he did. He dedicated himself to his athletics and fitness and even joined a few sports teams as he got into high school. Over the next four years he went from a gangly, softer spoken kid to a buff, rowdy man who would not hesitate to speak up and stand up for himself or his friends. Joel had received a scholarship due to his involvement on the basketball team and geared up to move out from his mother and into his new college's dorm!

College however would prove itself difficult, especially since Joel was not the most responsible individual on the planet when it came to himself or his studies. He ended up making friends with a whole new crowd who ended up being less than a great influence on him. They often got up to mischief or partying the night away, taking a toll on both Joel's academic and athletic endeavors. Unlike his friends, Joel could not afford to mess up his one shot at schooling due to his family's financial situation...but this only dawned on him upon his last warning- and by then it was all too far-gone. Due to his slacking off and goofing off throughout the first two years, Joel could no longer keep up with the demands and was forced to drop out of school. Immediately he ran back home to his mother and delivered the news...the disappointment in her eyes was clear as day. Though Joel was no stranger to mistakes, this particular one brought forth a wave of shame unlike any other. His mother had such high hopes for him...and he had let her and himself down by not taking his schooling more seriously.

Still, he would do his best to make it up to her. He hopped around from dead end job to dead end job, attempting to atone for his misdeeds. Still, she set the money aside without his knowledge instead of using it. Joel did everything from security to delivery driving, whatever would provide for him and his mother. However, his audacious nature tended to cause him to bump heads with many people- some of which had the power to fire him...and did. Eventually his mother grew tired of Joel's unwillingness to hold his tongue and temper at his place of work...and she had enough. After losing yet another job, Joel arrived to their apartment only to find she had packed all of his possessions up. She was sending him away! As much as he begged and pleaded with her, she knew that he was too reliant on her to grow at this point in his life and sending him away was what would be best for him. She gave him the set of funds she had set aside for him all these years, and it is a fair bit due to interest as well. With that Joel was out on his own and forced to fend for himself. He managed to find a place to live thanks to the money his mother gave him and found work as a bouncer shortly after.
