Description
This is Highgate Cemetery in London. It is absolutely beautiful and I recommend to anyone visiting London to get their butts over there for a visit. It's a very old, very unique cemetery. The whole place is really just a big overgrown forest with headstones dotted all over the place. It may look a bit eerie, but it's so peaceful. Although I did cack myself when a cat leaped out of the ivy into my path LOL XDDDDRelated content

I am so, so going to visit next time I'm in London. It looks awesome beyond words! This is my fave photo of your three. All the wonkiness of the headstones just looks so cool.

All sorts of things from general upkeep of the graveyard to gardening, to selling tickets, to giving tour guides (though you have to be trained for that). I'd love to train as a tour guide myself. ^^

You pay for a guided tour in the West cemetery, but not the East. It costs £3 to walk around the East cemetery at your own leisure, but the West cemetery is by guided tour only, because the area is very fragile (I think it's one of the places that inspired Stoker to write Dracula - I reeeeally want to see it one day!).
I think it costs so much because it's a very large and historically important area. Some of the gravestones are very old and have to be taken care of by specialists, otherwise they'd be ruined by the ivy & tree roots. Ivy is pretty, but it's death to stone work. I should know - it's growing down one side of my house and wrecking the entire wall LOL

How old is the cemetary? Like, who was first buried there?

Looked it up on wiki - it's actually not as old as I thought it was. Only early 19th century. ^^ It feels/looks a lot older though O_O
