Heelster gowdie (or how I always knew it, heels o’er gowdie) is Doric for ‘head over heels’. I liked the idea of MacGuffin confessing to Merida this way, and she’s like ‘Ye whit??’ But curiosity gets the better of her and she does some investigating.
