Description
Kinda inspired by what has been doingThis is Lorelei's backstory, well, the humanised version. I have talked about her engine one in brief before in my 'That Lambeth Girl' drawing.Β
Humanised
Lorelei Cooke was born and raised in Crewe, a popular railway town in Cheshire, England. As a child, Lorelei had always been somewhat different from many other girls in the town. As young as 5, while many girls wanted Barbies or princess outfits, Lorelei wanted toy vehicles. Her parents found her...strange. It wasn't even an phase, Lorelei has never had a feminine side. She's not had any interest in the things other girls enjoyed - this unfortunately resulted in a lot of torment and bullying from the other girls in Crewe. It doesn't help that Lorelei was often ridiculed by her own parents as well. Lorelei began to become a loner, and she use to get very violent when she didn't get what she wanted - most of the time it was just alone time, but her parents always had to 'have talks' with her. By the time Lorelei was 10, her parents put her into care, no longer able to handle their 'weird' daughter. Lorelei doesn't care though, she has more alone time by now, and it gave her more time with her passion for vehicles, but one particular vehicle always fascinated Lorelei - the steam locomotive.
When Lorelei was 13, she journeyed on her own to the Crewe works, where many locomotives were being made and repaired. The young teen was fascinated at first sight. She was greeted by the Lead Engineer, a man who introduced himself as Albert. He offered Lorelei a tour of the whole facility and even allowed her onto his own personal locomotive. Lorelei had never been so happy before! Despite her young age, she applied to become an apprentice, and Albert accepted, allowing her to work alongside him. Lorelei became one of the best engineers at the Crewe Steamworks, and she got much closer to the steam locomotives. By the time she was 18, she quickly became a qualified train driver too, and got her own locomotive - an amber coloured LNWR Class G1, a present from her mentor Albert. Lorelei was now in a much happier place, but it didn't stay that way for long...
A few months after she received her locomotive, all of the Crewe works were shocked to hear that Albert passed away in the night from a heart attack. He had been ill the past few months, but he was always at work, not wanting to let anyone down. Lorelei was heartbroken, and she feel into a state of grieving, and what many would say is the changing point of Lorelei's behaviour. Lorelei was quickly appointed Lead Engineer at Crewe, and she did her work - although she didn't talk to anyone. She would simply give a command and carry on.
One day, a particular locomotive came in - it wasn't from any British railway. The engine in fact, came all the way from Sodor. But Lorelei...she couldn't identify what engine it was. She could clearly see it was horribly built, with a small firebox and a boiler that was full of faults. Not to mention it was smashed and broken in all places. Lorelei heard that the engine was involved in a horrific accident on the Island of Sodor, and its driver was currently at the best hospital in Crewe, having his injuries treated. Lorelei decided to pay him a visit - originally wanting to take the mick out of him. But upon seeing how bad of a state he was in, Lorelei decided to remain respectful. She introduced herself, and the train driver began to already feel much better - and introduced himself as Henry Stanier. Upon learning more from Henry that his engine was a complete write off (And was already a very faulty engine, having brought it from a shady designer), Lorelei decided to rebuild his engine complete - free of charge - as a beautiful LMS Stanier Class 5 'Black Five'. Henry was delighted! And whenever Lorelei had breaks, she made sure to visit Henry to keep him company. By the time Henry was able to move around again, Lorelei took him to the works to show her progress - the engine was remarkable, it looked nothing like it did! Lorelei even had it painted in it's previous colours too! Henry stayed for a few more days, before being discharged, and allowed to go back home to Sodor. Lorelei was again distraught - the only person she could consider a friend was leaving again...
Over time, things became worse. And as time went on, Lorelei's behaviour became worse than ever. After a government project was allowed to pass, multiple railways began to close, and steamworks around Britain began to close too, and steam was abolished. This raised major riots amongst train drivers, many of who were angry at the new rules and laws - but many eventually found work on National Rail or elsewhere. Lorelei in the meantime, she was more than angry. She was furious. She was heartbroken. She wanted to kill the very man who proposed such an idea.
Lorelei's behaviour made a lot of train drivers and other engineers fear her - although secretly Lorelei preferred it that way. She was never afraid of getting violent. Lorelei now holds no trust in anyone, and is willing to treat everyone the same way - with intimidation, cussing, and threats of violence. Even children aren't safe from Lorelei's attitude. Now days, Lorelei's job consists of going to preserved railways and maintaining the steam engines held there - this just made Lorelei hold a prejudiced against many steam engine drivers, particularly those of famous locomotives.
Lorelei no longer wants to feel the way she use to be. She didn't want to be ridiculed, she didn't want to be heartbroken, she didn't want to be distraught, she didn't want to be involved in a corrupted government plan. Lorelei simply gave up, and just carried on fixing steam engines - the one thing she has left to enjoy. She doesn't wear her uniform as she should, she's already ticked off from having to wear a skirt. In some ways, Lorelei feels pity for the Sodor engines - she believes only time will tell until the whole railway facade will show. But this time, Lorelei's prepared for it...
Yes, particularly dark
Lorelei doesn't want that. She's bitter, frustrated, and she believes everything around her is a facade. She's not gonna break now - although she does at times pity the Sodor engines for carrying on, thinking everything is normal, but she believes it's just a scheme waiting to happen.
IDK, I just wanted to make a character that is more different than all the other TTTE characters. I do think it'd also be useful for the show to have a character like that - because unfortunately, not everyone you meet in real life is going to be as hard working or kind or generous as a majority of the TTTE cast.
AFTER Lorelei's backstory, Lorelei does appear in my story Mainland Adventure, which is her first appearance - I NEED to rewrite it so don't even bother looking at it XD - and after that, she does visit Sodor occasionally because of her work, usually at least once a month. During that time, Lorelei spots a fellow engine driver on Sodor, dressed in royal purple, and a true Londoner. She doesn't know what it is that attracts her to this girl but it's something
Lorelei belongs to me.
TTTE belongs to HiT Entertainment/Mattel.
