Description

Seleena drifted through cyberspace, checking on the various systems under her command. The demi-legion AI paused as she felt a ripple in the data flow. She turned, spotting a blue echidna coalesce nearby. Seleena raised an eyebrow.

"Ness-La"

The echidna smiled.

"Hello, Seleena."

Both Al regarded each other before Seleena spoke again.

"Is there something I can help you with?"

Ness-La shook her head, drifting to a block of data.

"I just thought I'd do a system scan. Don't mind me, Seleena."

The bat AI frowned. Something didn't feel right. She watched as Ness-La reached for a classified file. Quickly Seleena set up a firewall.

"I'm sorry Ness, but that file is for the Grandmaster's eyes only."

Ness-La giggled.

"It's alright, Seleena. I have the clearance to inspect it."

Seleena doubled the firewall. She was about to reply with a firmer rejection to the echidna's intents when another ripple occurred, a second blue echidna, identical to Ness-La appeared. Stunned, both echidnas looked at each other, the second speaking out in confusion.

"Seleena? Is everything alright? Who is this?"

The first echidna sighed. Her form shimmered and changed, taking on the form of June-La.

"Guess I'm busted," June-La said. "I'm sorry girls."

Seleena and Ness-La looked at the warrant officer's avatar as she backed away from the protected file.

"What is happening, Ma'am?" Ness-La asked.

"Could you please explain this deception, Ma'am?" Seleena added.

June-La gave an embarrassed smile.

"I was just trying to find out what Zaccy got me for my birthday," she replied. "I was hoping to hack into the files to see."

Both AIs shook their heads, sighing.

"You really shouldn't do that Ma'am," Ness-La said.

"Besides," Seleena added, "Sir has given me strict orders to let no-one have access to those files."

June-La held her hands up in defeat.

"Forgive me, girls. I promise I won't try again."

The two AIs watched as June-La dissolved, her conscious mind returning to her real body. The looked at each other, sharing a small laugh at the warrant officer's antics before returning to their duties.

June-La blinked as she disconnected from the computer, her attempts to find out about her birthday present foiled by the AIs. She smiled, patting the mainframe.

"Well done, girls," she said softly. "Keep up the good work."

The warrant officer turned and left the room, making her way to her quarters. She might not have been able to find the answers in cyberspace, but perhaps there were other ways to get the information she needed. The data would show her the way...

This is mine and 's collaboration submission for this year's June-4-June! A special monthly holiday created for highlighting his lovable echidna dame June-La. He supplied the sketch and story and I did the inking. I hope you enjoy, it took quite a bit of effort to put it together.
