Where is it, I know it's there,Pushing its way out any way it can,
But it isn't strong enough,
Like a butterfly emerged too soon,
It swells slowly with life,
I can hear its first breaths,
And then it dies,
And part of me dies with it,
And I just can't bring it back to life,
No matter how hard I try,
But, oh! how hard I try,
To no avail.
And even as my eyes start to fill,
And my vision to blur,
Mourning the death of what would have been
The strongest of all that I have brought forth,
And when the next one wells up,
I watch it with bated breath,
Hoping, wishing, wanting, dreaming,
But it too will slowly die,
Slowly stop beating its wings,
Slowly stop trying to escape,
Slowly, it shudders and is dead.
