Description
"Where'd this one come from?""Oh, usual story. Someone dropped him off on the streets, cops saw him wanderin' around and they brought him here."
"So what's he got?"
"Monothematic delusion of thought insertion, as far as we can tell."
"Mono- what?"
"He thinks that there's something in his head telling him what to think."
"Right. How do you know he's not faking?"
"Well, we have gotten to the point where we'll just put anyone that comes in saying they have a voice in his head right back out on the street. But this guy... I don't know."
"What do you mean?"
"I can see the fear in his eyes. When you look into his eyes you can just tell that- I'm not sure how to explain it. But he's definitely not faking it."
"Well, he's your responsibility now. You do whatever you like. It's not me that'll be taking care of him until you retire or just drop dead from all these crazy people driving you crazy."
"Yes, I know. He's just different somehow. With these others, they have almost no humanity left. This man is truly afraid though. That's the most human emotion you'll get at a place like this. I'll do my best to make sure he doesn't lose that last scrap though."
"Yeah, you do that. I, for one, have better things to do than watch a bunch of crazy people tear their hair out all day and act like I'm doing something to help them."
"Yeah, you might be right about that. No, you're almost definitely right. There's nothing I or anyone else could do for them. But I just can't bring myself to stop trying."
"You know what? You are the biggest boy scout I've ever seen. You just won't give up, will you?"
