Description Update: I made Clockwerk's exposed arm larger to be more proportional to the rest of his body, and lengthed some of the feathers near the end of his folded wing.

Behold! My first piece of fanart uploaded to deviantART--I finally got ahold of Adobe Creative Suite, and can finally share my own contributions as well as comment on others! Incidentally, my warmest thanks to Emperor-Alkarik (page found at [link] ) for letting me use the close-up of the head on one of his recent pictures as a model in my own work--it would have been a lot harder doing that part without his permission. Thanks, dude!

Now, for some backstory behind the pic, for those who love fandom as much as I do: the return of the villainous Clockwerk, arch-nemesis of the Cooper family of master thieves!

"What? But Clockwerk was destroyed at the end of Sly 2!" I hear many who played Sly 2 exclaim. To this, I reply: "More specifically, his BODY was destroyed." Sure, the Hate Chip that fueled its indestructibility was crushed, causing the whole thing to age into nothingness. Killed Off for Real, right?

But wait! Those who paid attention to the espionage mission in Canada during "He Who Tames the Iron Horse" will remember Arpeggio mentioning a "Clockwerk Brain."--ostensibly, the one remaining piece of Clockwerk that was organic (though likely sealed inside a plexiglass bubble and preserved with sci-fi fluids). But we never actually SAW it...and, since Arpeggio planned to use Clockwerk's body for his own, I suspect he left that part out when putting the FRAME back together.

So sure, all the OTHER major Clockwerk parts were accounted for. But the question remains...what became of Clockwerk's BRAIN? What if it had still be active all this time--if CLOCKWERK had still been cognizant? And what if the Hate Chip was really just a CONDUIT for Clockwerk's hatred--something to gather the negative forces seething in his mind and channel it throughout his mechanical shell, just as he could once focus his hate through every fiber of his flesh and blood?

Which brings me to the events of my fandom--though few were ever aware of it, he secretly influenced events behind the scenes. For more details, I've got a fanfic up on FF.net called "A Cold-Hearted Interlude," via my handle: Lonephantom

Long story short, Clockwerk survived. And now he's returned in a new body--sleeker, more graceful, and far more worthy of his stated goal of surpassing the Cooper family's skill as master thieves. After all, his old body--large, heavily-armored, and equipped with heavy firepower--is suited more for outright warfare than for the stealth and subtlety of a master thief.

That isn't to say that he's a pushover now, though. Far from it. Clockwerk's new body includes, among other things, upgraded versions of his old body's weaponry...

---
-Integrated pulse blasters built into his palms, modified from the first weapon he employed during his duel with Sly back in the Krack-Karov Volcano.

-The razor-sharp talons on his feet and hands have been specially honed, allowing him to slice into plates of steel--and thanks to his new humanoid frame, it's much easier for Clockwerk to utilize them in hand-to-hand combat.

-His artificial eyes are equipped with multi-purpose camera lenses, allowing him to see in regular, nightvision, infra-red, and ultraviolet. More importantly, Clockwerk's improved upon the hypnotic qualities that made his old set of eyes so valuable to the Contessa--by making eye contact with his foe, he can emit an eerie pulse of light that disorients them, leaving them more susceptible to both physical and emotional attack.

-Fans of Sly 1 and 2 will remember one of Clockwerk's deadlier weapons--the electro-rings that Sly had to fly through in the first game and shoot out in the second. In his new body, the mechanical owl's pectoral plates can slide open to expose a pair of integrated launchers, from which they can be fired. Like in Sly 2, these rings can generate a building charge that bursts out in the immediate vicinity like a land-mine, or an inward current to zap anyone who gets caught in the loop. What's more, the rings now have the ability to constrict, trapping an opponent in a rope-less lasso before emitting their debilitating shock.

-See those darker panels on his wings? Clockwerk can focus energy into them to generate a protective shield, allowing him to withstand the likes of a full rocket barrage from the Panda King! However, using the shield eats up power, so the villainous owl can't keep up the same kind of perpetual force-field that he apparently had in the first game (the thing that Carmelita's Shock Pistol had to de-stabilize before Sly could get his shots through).

-Laser bits--just as his old body could unleash security lasers in a last-ditch effort to protect him if he was ever badly damaged, Clockwerk has installed a set of miniature drones equipped with multidirectional thrusters, each one capable of emitting a concentrated laser beam. While relatively easy to dodge separately, the drones have been designed to operate in tandem with one another, creating lethal patterns of scarlet energy or snapping off quick bursts. On the plus side, though, they're rather fragile--a deftly thrown projectile or explosive could short-circuit them. And, like Clockwerk's wing-mounted shield generators, the beam bits have to recharge now and then--they can't fire endlessly.
----

Can you tell I've put a lot of thought into this? XD Heh, anyway...feel free to let me know what you think! Compliments, critique...it's all good!

You make yourself an enemy...but not just any enemy, a nemesis for all time...
Who hates you so passionately, that he gives up his mortal body for one of cold, unfeeling steel...
And then proceeds to hunt you...but not just you...
Your friends...your loved ones...your family...your wife...
Your children...
Your children's children...
Your children's children's children...
You can't plead with it...you can't reason with it...you can't outrun it...and you can't kill it...
The deathwatch inside this ancient engine of destruction will keep on ticking, for however long it takes, until your time inevitably runs out...

Clockwerk is utter nightmare fuel...

The Cooper Gang and Carmelita may destroy this one, but they will have no way of immediately dealing with the horror of Clockwerk's greatest scheme that revolves around my OC, Tyler the Shark. Whom will be submitted this Sunday to kick off Shark Week.

In the days that the Fiendish Five went their separate ways, Clockwerk kidnapped dozens of children, including Tyler when he was just a shark pup to be used as guinea pigs for his most diabolical yet greatest experiment to date. Utilizing cutting edge nanotechnology, which he had pinched here and twisted there, he encoded the essence of his Hate Chip on microchips, and set them into their young, little brains. Everything that was once the ancient evil avian has been nestled all comfy and cozy inside their own subconscious. Tyler was the first sleeper agent to be activated, the others have yet to be found before they awaken.

this really does look like a believable version of clockwerk is he had to upgrade to a new body with new abilities

clockwerk was such an epic villain
his hatred for coopers, the fact that he was no push-over (i died alot fighting him FFFFFFF) so he was a tough-talker and had the weapons to prove it

and i bet this one has more fire-power than ever

*Nag* Perhaps his body from the first and second games were prototypes in order to lure Sly into a false sense of security so that he could perfect and improve the faults and imperfections. I also imagine another weapon that Clockwerk has that we find could be extremely possible.

*Emerald* Basically, Clockwerk's fuel is hatred and anger towards the Coopers. What if Clockwerk could feed off of the negative emotions of any and all lifeforms in order to gain more power. Not only is his brain pumping hatred through the body, but he's also taking it from a vicinity (1-2 square miles) and gaining more power from it. If he was able to get his talons on Superman's negative emotions (mostly hatred and anger), we'd all be screwed over.

Alpha says: this version of Clockwerk could really give Sly a run for his money. Not only is he loaded with powerful weapons, but now he's got fighting techniques. O-O P.S. I keep on imagining this version holding a platinum round cane. (like Sly's cane but since his cane is more diamond shape and clockwerk is his enemy, you know Sly is good, Werk is bad, I went with round, Plus I did platinum because Clockwerk said he was superior, and platinum is higher than gold, at least in my books)

TheDnDking [2012-08-26 20:55:36 +0000 UTC]

Decided to fav. And actually, you could see Clockwerk's brain if you tilt the camera during the last part of Sly 1. From what I saw on the web, it might be orgainic.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WebWalker756 In reply to TheDnDking [2012-10-20 18:40:02 +0000 UTC]

Indeed! An organic brain in a glass-and-steel robotic jar, connected to the rest of the Frame. Clockwerk IS a cyborg, after all.

Also, in regard to your previous remark; I personally suspect the Hate Chip was merely a conduit for Clockwerk's hatred--a means of fueling his hate throughout his artificial body, just as he was once able to channel it through his real body through thought alone.

We should shoot the breeze sometime to discuss Sly Cooper fan ideas. What say you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDnDking In reply to WebWalker756 [2012-10-20 20:33:03 +0000 UTC]

And here I thought he was robot.

Well my theory was that if the Hate Chip provided the power to resist aging, I figured it would also power whatever system protected his brain from aging. Granted this would probably allow his brain to survive for a good time yet.

Sure, note me anytime you want.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

TheDnDking [2012-08-26 19:19:16 +0000 UTC]

Actually, forgot to say this. I would assume that the Clockwerk brain would have degraded like the rest of his body. But they never said it did. So I won't fault you for it, just saying that it might not have survived.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

TheDnDking [2012-08-26 19:17:27 +0000 UTC]

ALL HAIL THE NEW CLOCKWERK! Seriously though, greatest art of an upgraded one ever. And the way you did his weapons array, perfect. I would be proud to fight and fall to him. In fact, if I'm allowed, may I use this as a base for my own? I'm writing a story that would be my version of Sly 4. My Clockwerk would probably be anthroized like this, but more in Sly's size range. But he can call machines to himself to create a larger, more powerful, body. Like Metal Sonic.

Yes, it would. And with so many different time periods in which the Coopers were active, it'd be nice to see a few iterations of the old bird himself before the big finale. He WAS their arch-enemy throughout the centuries, and it's be interesting to see how he evolved over the course of time.

First things first: You did an amazing job on Clockwerks new body. he really looks ready to tear shit up!

Hm. You make an excellent point regarding the conversation between Jean Bison and Arpeggio. We never do get to see the piece that the pint-sized parrot has. I always assumed that his 'brain', as it were, was the hate chip that got destroyed. Maybe I just didn't listen to the ending closely enough.

Just from reading your description, I've come up with a scenario.

After the destruction of Clock-la, there's still the matter of where the mechanical menace's brain is located. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say Arpeggio's Mansion or whatever he'd have as a permanent base. His blimp may have served as a mobile fortress, but it didn't look like it had much in terms of comfort, plus he'd have to live somewhere while it was built.

Following your story and Arpy's demise, the mansion may have been abandoned or sold... with no one the wiser of what was kept in the sub-basement/secret lab. Alone, and as little more than a bare brain, Clocky found some way to resume his goal of eliminating the Cooper Clan, the result being that metal menace in the pic.
