This comic is pointing to a direction that I don't think the show is actually going to take, but that I wish it would: adding a character like Jasper who's an ally but who often opposes the logic of the core team of Garnet and Pearl (even Amethyst isn't really included.) Bismuth could have been that character, but well, we saw how the show handled her :/ The show at least seems to be acknowledging that the Gems aren't necessarily people Steven should trust at their word; they've been making some questionable assumptions and not owning up to them, and Steven's finally catching on.

The thing is that the show isn't black and white, there's a lot of grey just like in real life. To the CGs, Pink Diamond had to go for them to be free. On the other hand, Homeworld is still grieving for her. The CGs believe they did the right thing even if there's much they regret, because they fought for what they believed in. They're not decieving Steven, they're giving him their view - but more and more, different ideas are seeping in and the show is about Steven deciding what's right.

Yeah, the Crystal Gems haven't had an easy job trying to guide Stephen, especially if (as I suspect is true) Garnet et al. are constrained by instructions from Rose Quartz given before her "death". From what I've seen, Rose's way of living with herself after the events of the civil war was to focus entirely on ordinary, human concerns. ("Rose and I talked about tons of important stuff. Music, comic books, getting sand between your toes, y'know, feelings...") I wouldn't be surprised if she told the other Gems, "I don't want Steven to know anything about the past", but keeping Steven completely in the dark was never going to be a realistic possibility, especially after it became clear that Steven had Gem powers himself.

By chosing not to look ahead and focus on what's in front of her, I presume. If she was always living in the future she wouldn't ever get anything done in the present, so she needs to have that ability.
