Description A good portion of the face is done. Scaling around the eyes is a bit tricky, I feel the individual clay particles would look more natural even smaller right around them, but it is very difficult molding them any smaller than I've been doing.

Group Critique: The scaling is looking wonderful, but reading about your trouble with doing around the eye, may I suggest starting from the tail and working up? A really good friend, and wonderful sculptor told me to do that while I was working on mine. Unfortunately, I had already started around the eyes first.

Also, perhaps you could make the scales larger in the middle, and smaller as they go? I notice they are mostly the same size and it doesn't really look natural.

All that aside though, it is looking really cool. <3 I think he/she is adorable. I hope that helped.

Thanks! Yeah, the newer dragon I uploaded here a little while ago was scaled from the tail up. It did work better. For this one, I did intend to make the scales around the middle a bit larger, but I went smaller than planned just out of force of habit (it gets so automated/repetitive rolling all those little balls of clay!) The wings seem to have obscured the body scales in the final photos I uploaded. Because the back was feathered, you have to look at the sides and underneath to see them, and it was hard to get a good angle for a shot and still have a decent photo to represent the piece with.

Anyhow, thanks for the much appreciated critique!

Yeah I was looking at the finished piece, and it looks great either way. O gawd I know the scaling can be repetitive, I was trying to not get into the zone when I was working on mine.

Your welcome, I hope it did help even though you were already done with the piece. lol

Very good job so far. Iยดm currently working on an oriental sculpey dragon as well so I know exactly how tricky it is ^^.

It can get tedious but it goes by quicker than you might think if you're really "zoning".

I never cease to be amazed at the amount of scalation and integumentary detail you put into your artwork. I imagine it must be incredibly time consuming but hot damn is the end result a sight to behold. It looks like a real animal!
