Days....."just" days....but hey, I've had fun with it and I can say that drawing Turtonator is not such a challenge anymore!
Know I have many WIP Pokemon OC ref sheets, so with every try I'll get them done faster, so I'm willing to try share more.

I'm glad it looks great, I hope the ideas involved here and cool as well~

Definitely! I enjoy all the ecological explanations you included (Turtonator group dynamics, etc.). Tank is a very interesting character too, I can see you've put a lot of thought into the character- his attitude and personality were shaped by his past experience, it makes him a believable.

Aw man, thank you so much for such comment!
I'm happy to see that my efforts in pushing through my self-doubts paid off
and that Tank is actually a well developed OC,  even if I still rememer not so long ago I haven't knew more about him than just that he got a nasty wound
and an arrogant attitude like he'll scorch the whole World like a Reshiram.
I feel proud how he's now, and that he has a name!

What you have seen here is going to be updated, but I've got absorbed by my E-Pokedex project
and a story idea where Wei will travell with Einstein the Xurkitree to a Buzzwole's World and Tank will finally
appreciate his newest owner. Sorry to throw all this at you, but if you seem to be interested

-Tank has gone through a lot of miserable stuff and even if his days with team Skull were great,
they ended in a moment. He got into hands of a competitive trainer that felt dissapointed over the Turtonator
and this made Tank both grounded with distrust towards humans and self-doubt over being worthy at all.
The third owner will be Weirda Mirrart, because I love that Pokemon way too much and a grumpy reptile Pokemon
has to return to her team after her first one (Zuzy the Scrafty) decided to live on her own.

Wei could have too easy life just being lost in another dimension or being attacked by Darkrai or possesed by a Spiritomb....so I decided to add her Tank on her side

to raczej oberwiesz jego ulubionym atakiem brutal swing -w-

Ale Wei go oswoi z mizianiem i okaże się, że ten żółwik pokocha to,
a już szczególnie gdy ktoś jest w pobliżu, bo wtedy Tank czuje,że jest w centrum uwagi
i że to on decyduje, kiedy chwalenie typu smoczego się zakończy

O właśnie! trafiłaś w sedno, chociaż wiedz,że ja widzę jego właściciela z teamu Skull
jako całkiem myślącego typa zainteresowanego chemią,więc no...to raczej błędy wieku młodzieńczego hehe

oh, if you haven't mistaken the word "him" with "her",
then lemme make it clear to you: I have an early WIP of my female Turtonator OC
and she HAS a name: Gabrielle. Her Kommo-o mate doesn't have name yet.

This one Turtonator is 99% going to be male, it's just my perfectionist's pondering
about such details as even the gender, even if I see him as a male.
And....I'm gonna share in my status update the fact my mind's thinking about another Turtonator x Kommo-o shipping,
with both genders represent. LOOOL IT'S SHIPPING TIME, MY SILLY BRAIN SAYS!

Actually, if Turtonator's based on MataMata, then it lacks protective scales like most of turtles/tortoise do,
so that's why i portaited him to have such big chunk of wounds.
His shell might recovered and got just scratches, but his skin got hurt badly.

true for the mata mata but i feel like if your life stile involves blowing up on a daily basis i feel like tough scales would help a lt more than none

only 1 i dislike is incineroar but that is only because of the whole fighting thing (i know it is dark but it looks and acts like a fighting type)

In my eyes, your argument is invalid- that's because Turtonator is dependent on its natural ability/prosperity
of its shell which fails at the rainy days like dex states. It learns late its signature move and exploding moves, 
unlike well known exploding Pokemon such like Voltorb or Geodude, so how it can controll explosions earlier?
Additionally, its own kind ain't stupid and knows to avoid this danger.

Mata mata turtle are specialized, and so a real Turtonator could be- a loner and specialized in its own lifestyle,
which could be rather peaceful. All other Pokemon living in Blush mountain are small enough to be eaten whole with its mouth,
so no need to use explosions THAT often.

An unscaled skin could help absorb the heat or expell the heat, but that's just my loose thought not based on any
biology fact. Turtonator got a really wide and big shell and its long neck allows it to stand with turned back and still have a good sight
of what's going on, so why have a scaly neck and arms? It could need more energy to grow 'em AND recover I think.

Looking at its weird hole on the stomach I can assume that its evolution leaned towards losing front armor since it is well armored
from the back and that is enough.

oh that actually interesting if they made it a later learned move, makes me think of the brachydios from monster hunter how the babies can't withstand the explosions (highly recommend monster hunter, you might love the designs and powers of the different monsters)

wonder why it even evolved such a feature to begin with then with such small fauna

i am going off the feature of land tortoises were they have scaled limbs, i do agree with the neck though, they lack scales there
but i can easily see what you mean though, maybe most of the energy for development went into the shell?

i imagine the hole was there for a cooling mechanism, like if it is over heated it lets out the excess heat or something, but this makes a weak point to aim for too
