Description
This is my entry for the PaperMarioGamers "Villainous Paper" contest to design a Paper Mario villain. I'm sorry this came so late, but other things in my life prevented me from starting on it sooner. Also, I hope the fact that it's not digitally drawn affects my score int he contest.Tattle: Wow...I can't believe it's finally happened...Madam X is right here...and she's more powerful than ever! I'm sure she doesn't just want revenge on the Luminescent Order now, but you and the rest of us, Mario! HP is 120. Attack is 10. Defense is 2. She can conjure up even more powerful attacks with the crystal, so we need to use ours to keep her from wiping us out in one hit! She can also raise her defense and even regenerate health! Is there anything she can't do? Well, even if there isn't, we're with you until the end, Mario, and hopefully that end will be for her!
Born in the race known as "Umbhires", Madam X is an exceptionally powerful sorceress, having greater control over her own magic powers than any other member of her race. Not just any Umbhire has been capable of using magic to a great extent, so Madam X is one of those special few to have managed it. Madam X has been raised her whole life to use her powers to steal a legendary object known as the "Luminystal", and use its power to make herself and her people invincible, so they will be seen as the greatest in the world!
An attempt to weaponize the crystal had happened before, by one of Madam X's ancestors: Xenpior. Xenpior was also an exceptionally skilled magic user, and it was his idea to use his gift to make the Umbhires the most powerful, feared, and respected race in the world by combining his dark magic powers with the Luminystal's. He easily defeated the Luminescent Order, who were the guardians of the crystal, and took hold of the object so as to merge its power with his. He seemed to succeed, but only partially, as when the Luminystal became corrupted by his magic, the combined power was too much for Xenpior, as when t flowed back into his body, he could not handle the load and was destroyed completely.
Since then, the Umbhires made it a point to try and carry out Xenpior's "noble deed", to take the crystal and use it for what he had desired. But, nobody at the time was as strong as he was, so they were forced to wait until someone of exceptional magical prowess would arise again, but that would not happened again for centuries...
Others who believed themselves strong enough went on their own to retrieve the Luminystal, but never returned...
Madam X took these words to heart as she trained over the years to become the best she could, and when that time came, she would not let anyone get in her way of achieving her ancestor's venerable goal: not the Luminescent Order, not an opposing villain, and certainly not a ragtag group of weaklings lead by some plumber...
Notes: I actually came up with this character before the contest started, since it was for my Paper Mario game idea; "Paper Mario: Shards of Luminescence", so why not use her for this, right? The drawing part was definitely the hardest of the tasks, since coming up with the actual idea seemed so much easier in comparison. I didn't like having to give away that she's related to the guy who corrupted the game's MacGuffin, since it isn't revealed until the end of the game, but I felt it necessary for the sake of her backstory in this, so it would be known why she was so driven to get the Luminystal.
Not all of her colors are what I imagined, but I had a limited number of colors to use with my colored pencils, which I used because I'm not so good at drawing on the computer, though I hope that's okay for the contest.
The symbol on her chest is actually the official emblem for the Umbhires, which is why the color is different from the rest of her outfit, since it was made before they all went evil.
Other Umbhires are fought in the game, as part of Madam X's personal army known as: "The Umbhros Legion". They are filled with non-magical foot soldier-types, and those that can use magic, but not nearly as much as Madam X. So there is a hierarchy of minions in the Umbhros Legion, so Mario and co. will have more of a variety of new enemies to fight, rather than just what Bowser uses all the time. Oh yeah, Bowser's in the game, naturally, and he has his own part to play, but that'll be getting too off-topic for what this contest is about.
Whether I win or lose, I still hope my villainess is considered "Villainous Paper" enough, and that she could actually be seen in a real Paper Mario game.
Lastly, I supposed some quotes would be proper, wouldn't you say?
Who am I, you ask? Well, soon all will know of I, Madam X, and the glory that is the Umbhire race!
You really think I'm afraid of anyone? Especially some old, moronic tortoise like you?...or is the proper term "turtle"...?
Is there any better feeling than having your enemy dig their own grave for you? Only when you get to be the one to bury them...
