What was his accent? It reminded me of something German-esque with the way he stressed and pronounced the words.

I know what you mean. He's British, techinally I think. On his letter at the end I think he adresses it England or some where in the game it says that. If my memory serves me. But his accent is strange, I agree. Then again 30 years alone in a dark hole will do things to you I suppose.
Disney's Princess and the Frog a few of the Princes' words remind me of Red

I'm just imagining Red sitting on the horse backwards while it's trotting and leaning over to bite the horse's flank. With Philip running behind the horse trying to pull Red off. XD
I also imagine that the horse is in a parade and everyone watching is wondering just what the hell the odd miner is doing to the horse.
