Description
Right! More coloured uploads for you lovely patient ladies and gentlemens. Now, some of you might remember this character from a little while ago; she was formerly named 'Helga' but her name has now changed to 'Boudi' (kudos goes to whoever works out where that name originates from)
Anyway, she's now the primary character in a fiction I'm writing called; 'The Littlest Barbarian.'
Which, oddly enough; is about barbarians. I may upload it at some point if anyone's interested.

I absolutely hate the idea of barbarians as a class. Β That said there's something oh so hilariously right about a females dwarf wearing the strappiest harem girl costume ever along with enough jewelry to open a chain of stores. Β Plus the second time 've ever seen an war end woman wearing nail polish. Β The cheeseburger is just icing on the cake.

Hamburger lol. It would be funny if there was an alternate version where you switched it with the beer.

That'd be a bit much work considering the foodstuff in contention is a mere prop
Besides, this picture is quite old, and dated, by standards.

I should also mention, I like the natural look you give all your characters. A statement like that may not make a lot of sense considering you draw quite a bit of fantasy and sci-fi, but there's what I mean: your characters always have this look where they are at their most candid, as if caught in a spontaneous moment. Boudi here, for example, is munching on a burger and raising a toast to no one in particular (presumably out of a sheer love for life). I also love how from a purely physical standpoint, she looks quite natural as well. Like the little bit of healthy pudge around her waist, or her delightfully unkempt bikini line.
Well done sir!

Thanks very much! And good to hear from you again!
Yeah, I try very hard to make my characters look as beleivable as possible in their environments; I'm not sure I always manage it, but I'm getting better I think. And as for natural looking, well, Boudi is the perfect excuse to draw a 'natural' character; she's a barbarian, so it gives her a bit of an excuse to be a little fuzzy and pudgy.
(Also, kudos for noticing the bikini line I'm not sure how many other people have picked up on it!)

Not sure of the spelling, but I'm pretty sure you're referencing Boudicea, the Celtic warrior Queen.

Right on the money!
To be honest, I'm not sure of the spelling either; I usually go with Boudica, which is the most common spelling, but Boudicea, Boadicea, and half a dozen others are all used, which is confusing as hell.
If I only we could go back in time and ask her how she spelt it!

Nice work on hte perspective of her feet. 'owever, maybe ye might wanna hand-draw the background too. I reckon it'd do yer character art more justice.

WelderFace In reply to binkibonsai [2012-04-20 19:44:21 +0000 UTC]
I totally understand what you mean with that; I was pretty annoyed with the background to be honest; I've never really tried hand-drawing in backgrounds all that much, but I might have ago with the next picture I try.
I have done backgrounds in photoshop before, and they've turned out okay, but this one looks pretty naff =/

binkibonsai In reply to WelderFace [2012-04-20 19:49:34 +0000 UTC]
Well since ye got the background, why not color o'er it and then stick Boudi in, altering shadows to fit accordingly.
Books on anatomy and life drawing help considerably.
I highly recommend "Anatomy for Fantasy Artists"
Worth every penny and I'm sure it's downloadable somewhere too.

So you mean just paint over the top of what I've got now?
Yeah, I can see that working!
As for books, I've got a few myself, mostly some really good books by a guy called Finlay Cowan, they were useful, but in all honesty, I'm self taught; I've just picked up all the things about bodies through observation, I just like to mess around with proportions; I find that trying to draw anatomically perfect characters gets boring after a while.

Well, to be honest so long as you know the basics of anatomy, I would place more priority on developing your style; I mean, your art is already nice and distinctive, but as with anything, a little practice never went amiss!

Hmm, a hot, natural, dwarf girl who appears to be quite friendly and vivacious--this seems relevant to my interests. I look forward to seeing more of her ("in every sense of the word," he adds lecherously). She does love jewelry, doesn't she? That's good, it should make her all the more recognizable when her other clothes have been removed or replaced.
The hamburger and fries are fun anachronisms, though I couldn't say if frothy brews of that (imaginary) era included parasols or not. Can I pretend that the drink is some kind of fantasy-medieval cappuccino?
π: 0 β©: 1
WelderFace In reply to Malcolmd [2012-04-18 07:28:45 +0000 UTC]
Wow! Glad you like her; she's pretty much a combination of all the things I think are awesome; I just wanted to create a character that included everything awesome;
Also, yes; she likes jewellery a lot; I've never really imagined her in any alternate outfits though; I might have a look at different clothing later.... But she'll always have all her accoutrements.
Well, the parasol in the booze was just a sort of little cutesy pop-culture touch, but, by all means, if you think it should be medieval cappuccino, then medieval cappuccino it is!

NO.
Nah, well, I'm working on one for you at the moment, but once I've done that one, if you really want one, you've only got to ask. I only refuse requests if it becomes a case of someone constantly asking me to draw stuff for them,

CheshireCaterling In reply to WelderFace [2012-04-16 11:24:34 +0000 UTC]
Yeah well as an artist myself I totally understand where you're coming from. My more charitable days are long behind me at least in regards to the general populace. People I consider close friends are another matter entirely.
Maybe rather than making a request and if my schedule clears up a bit we could do an art trade.

WelderFace In reply to CheshireCaterling [2012-04-16 11:36:21 +0000 UTC]
I see what you mean, but me personally, I'm still at the sort of mindlessly optimistic, charitable stage, of course, if a friend asked me to do a request or something, they'd take precedence, and if a person on DA is being nice to me, and asked nicely for a request, well, I don't mind being courteous to them; but if a person just randomly pops up and starts demanding things, then I'm less inclined to do anything for them.
Also, I'd love to do an art trade, when and if you get the time
