For those of you who don't know, he was the Phantom of the Opera. As evidenced by his mask. Heheeh.

That is a double of Michael Crawford, not the real one. His face would not look like that if he was real.
BUT! You are quite lucky to stand next to a Crawford wax statue. I want to stany by his statue...or stand by him.

He was a good Phantom from what I can see. A little bit eccentric, where as Gerry Butler's version of the Phantom was more composed and more dignified, but he was alright. I just hate that he had to listen to Sarah Brightman. I tell you, that woman scares me with the way she sings and moves. *shivers*

let's be honest here, gerard was okay, but he did tend to shout more then sing in the movie... And sarah brightman's voice was good and her acting wasn't that bad either! ^_^

althought her singing is well we will not get into that part the true problem i have with her is her acting. i feel more sorry for him cause he had to look at her and he looked cracked out with her eyes coming out of her head. But michael is the angel of music and he usaly sings me to sleep. lucky people getting to meet him...

The Phantom is supposed to be eccentric and Sarah Brightman wasn't all that bad, admittedly, her acting needs a bit of work but as she said herself she's not an actress but a singer. Her voice as well as Michael's in the Original Cast Recording are superb and so far I haven't come across people who can even match the power and majesty of Crawford's mellow tenor and the innocence and purity of Brightman's tone in the recording.
And the less said about Mr Butler and company, the better...the only person I liked in the film was Patrick Wilson even though it's difficult to make the memories of Steve Barton's interpretation that easily.
Looking at the picture, I sort of wish that the makers of the wax figure made more effort in making Michael looking like Michael Crawford...it doesn't look anything like the real Michael at all although I appreciate the thought and time that they took in dedicating a figure of him.

Awesome picture, he's one of my top favorites. I sing a lotta his stuff. But as far as G. Butler goes on PotO, he didn't nearly come close to Crawford's. I wasn't pleased or thrilled with his singing at all. :/

Well, that's where we have a disagreement. Sarah's not an actress nor a singer. *lol* Sorry, but I can't stand her voice. I call her Ms. Squeaky.
Also, to me, there will never be another true Phantom like Gerry. To me, he's the one and only. *lol* He has the looks, the personality, the eyes, the deviousness, the eyes, the most gorgeous voice, the eyes...did I mention the eyes?

I can see that there's going to be a heck of disagreement here but I'd leave it at that...coincidentally, Mr Butler was my first Phantom and the film was the vehicle that led me to be introduced to the musical so I'm grateful for that. But once I got to see and hear the magnificence of the Original Cast Recording...the stage musical was definitely going to be a hundred times better than the film, IMHO.
I'm not sure if people realise this but without Crawford (who won a Tony, Olivier, Drama Desk Award for his brilliant, mesmerising performance...he's got it all, the aura, the magnificent, soaring voice and the sensuality), or Brightman's influence on Andrew Lloyd Webber who specifically wrote the part of Christine and the musical for her or even the rave reviews and awards that the musical won during its record-breaking opening runs in London and Broadway which still continue to this day due to the efforts of the original cast, crew and production company...without the initial success that made Phantom a hit, there would have been no movie, none at all.

He's on one of my Broadway movies, I don't watch many of the performances but I always ALWAYS watch him and Julie Andrews do My Fair Lady (I've Grown Accustomed to her Face/The Rain in Spain), I love it so so so much ;-;
