in the FF9 era, there is some black mage who regain their "consciousness" and then they seen their mate dead in the war, and then many of the black mage who run far away, and then build a little village, and they living there waiting until they "stop moving" or dead.

and they began to realize something when they using magic, their lifespan was shortened, because they using the mist power within them which is quite limited. so they began to developing weapon for defending themself without using magic.

Because their body isnt made for a fighter, so they equiped themself with armor, and fighting with a group with minimal 4 blackmage, two agile blackmage in the front as a meele fighter, and two other in the back as a support using gun and bows.
