Description
This was spurred on by anon on tumblr asking about the history of my avatar/fursona. After describing what I could remember of some of the first iterations of my character, I wanted to go dig them up for myself, which turned into compiling all if the most prominent incarnations of my namesake character!I've done art improvement memes before, but never something focusing on the lifespan of one sole character.
I made up some 'eras' on the coloured timeline, some of you old stalkers probably remember A LOT of them. Some fun facts about Magnus that I rediscovered while digging through my ancient sketchbooks:
- The very first Magnus was burgundy coloured with a metal claw and originated from the world of Draenor in WarCraft. (HAHA)
- She has always had ears
- Magnus often had a scythe in her early years
- Magnus has always had spikes spanning from the top of the head to the base of the neck
- For a while she had a crow companion
- There is a lot of Homicidal Maniac Magnus sketchbooks. Like at least 10 full sketchbooks
- Glamfur Magnus is embarassing
- 2004 era Magnus started to really hint towards who I really wanted to be (fun loving and goofy) despite the image I already made for myself.
- Her ears really do grow like weeds.
As any artist, we all come from really humble beginnings. And I am very proud of that, and hope brand new artists and young artists can appreciate that you don't get good overnight. We all started somewhere!

I remember Magz from 2003 to 2006. Is amazing yet slightly sad how time changes things. This reminds me also that Magz (or your drawings back then) are what made me try and search for things he/she wears like spiked collars and such. It didn't worked out that well or suited me like I had hoped.

Yeah, right around 2003/2004 Magnus was when I first came across you... almost miss those days, if only because *I* was more productive (rather than some "Wah, your older stuff was better" comment). Thankfully you've managed to keep on going and your stuff has only gotten better (and evident of this character evolution).

It's always very interesting to see the evolution of not just the character in question but also the artist's style. I remember when I began following your art during the "homicidal maniac" and "gamer" Magnus eras; still to this day I admire everything you do, and I have to say it got a lot better now.
I'd totally love to do a timeline like this, but anything I made that represents me in some way is a bit too new for that matter.

It's always interesting to see how a character grows and yours is very interesting. I found you about ten years ago in FCL and your art and character was very impressive to me. And I still like your older images a lot and of course your new cartoony Magnus is cool as well
Question: Didn't exist one time a kind of a black Magnus? A character from someone else who looked similar to yours?

That was Eddy. He was the Mr. Hyde to my Jekyll (Magnus). Like a manifestation of all my angriest, devious and most violent teenage thoughts haha

Always love seein' improvement memes and 'the evolution of' deviations. This is really awesome, been watchin your art since 03'-ish i think. You were the first artist to really inspire me way back in the day. I wonder where you'll be in five years.

As sad as it may be, I actually sorta miss some of the old magnus designs, the various ones back till about 2004. The current one is great too, but it's sorta sad when the other designs are just as great in my opinion, but will prolly never be drawn again. It would be fun to see the old styles and designs pop up once in a while. But of course it's only natural that with artistic growth comes differences and changes in the art itself, haha. But anyways, this character growth chart looks great, and the improvement is wicked.

It's not just artistic growth, but personal growth and maturity too.
The old designs probably will never show up again unless it's in self parody. They're just not who I am anymore. And my artists growth also says they're mediocre designs at best.

I would admit to being a stalker in that I remember seeing a few of these old ones back when I was younger, but then I was inactive for some years and missed that they were taken down. Sorry, I probably I shouldn't be stuck on past things but would you ever consider reposting any of them?
Blah but anyways, I think people will learn well from this that it takes patience to get better. It helped me thats for sure and I greatly appreciate it. I actually considered giving up on drawing until I began to see the improvement of other artists.
And on a random note; this character is so freaking popular that it's hard to have a red/black dragon or tailwings without being associated with her :'D
