Wonderful pic; I faved it lol. Anyways, despite her name in the anime in the US (and her name written in English across her shirt when we first see her in Dragonball), I believe her name is actually supposed to be "Bluma" and not "Bulma" because Buruma is her name in Japan, but Buruma translates to "Bloomers", an old type of lady's underwear. The Japanese often pronouce "er" like "ah", unless they are very good at speaking English. Also, I'm pretty sure that alot of the words in Japan look singular when they are either singular or plural (they'd only have a "s" at the end if a word was written in English). So take the "s" off of Bloomers and you have "Bloomer". Now, since the Japanese pronounce "er" like "ah", change the "er" in Bloomer to an "a" and you have Blooma. Change the "oo" in Blooma to a "u" and you have Bluma.
In the Japanese version of Dragonball: Origins for the NintendoDS, the name Bulma on her pink shirt actually says "BLUMA" instead of "BULMA". This was altered in the US version, however. I guess her name originally being spelled BULMA in the manga by Toriyama was a lack of knowing English that well at the time. I mean, he's quite intelligent to make Dragonball, so I'm positive he knows better English now. If not, the difference is he'd probably have a team of people to help him. So all you'd really have to do is switch the U and the L around
