Late afternoon light on tall gum trees in the Dandenong Ranges - outside MelbourneOil on canvas board
I have recently received a much clearer photo of this painting so am uploading it on 9 Feb 2010

Saw this in your ID - I think it brilliantly captures the mood of the bush. Reminds me of the paintings my grandfather (an Australian who lived most of his adult life in the UK) made.

Staats, we in Australia call Eucalyptus trees "gum" trees, I guess because they have sap/gum which leaks out their trunks and branches.

as you probably know gum arbic is the usual binder in watercolor. heard it was in short supply cause of climate change and war in africa.
curious if it grew in australia too

Many's the morning I've spent in the Dandenongs, listening to the Lyrebirds call and hoping to catch a glimpse of one. It's a fantastic place and you've captured its spirit perfectly - once again, plenty of kudos and congratulations.

Many thanks. I love that part of the world also. I live in Perth, but sometimes when I go across to visit the family, I manage a drive to the Dandenongs. A more recent painting is the one of a view on the road to Gembrook.
