Description
The title says digital inking... but this should more accurately be called something like computer aided inking or digital after effects.i should also note that these kind of effects should only be used for black and white art work shown on the web, not sure how it will look in print yet. and (manga work especially) is usually printed in bitmap tiff format cause it normally looks best.
don't this kind of thing if your giving it someone else to color. as a colorist i'd have to say i'd hate to get inks that looks like this. i like to use threshold and remove any annoying grays and such. it makes life alot easier when coloring. besides these kind of effects can always be added after.
all that was done here was simple color holds, with blurs and gradients to sorta move parts of the art work back and forth. theres an endless amount of ways to do this if you look around. inks especially in high res on a computer, always look flat to me. which makes color fun in way. but if your posting your own inks on the web it feels like it's missing something compared to the original.
i'm also not the best inker in the world and it takes me forever. digital inking is used on clean pencils. but i was wondering what the computer could do to touch up inks done by hand. might speed things up and might have a more professional look. and theres alot of way to go about digital inking. i kinda went over board here though (if you looking to have something colored later).
anyways i just wanted to get a few concepts across and share some ideas. i'm sure there are guys (and gals) out there alot more talented then me, that can take this and run with it.
