Description
Dear children, there was once a time when I tried to care about Dragonball Z. I'd heard it was the most exciting action cartoon ever made. Then I watched an entire episode of the bad guys playing rock-paper-scissors and doing calisthenics before the big fight. That is some kinda bullshit. And don't try telling me they were building atmosphere either, because I know a waste of airtime when I see one.We shouldn't be afraid to dump on an overrated cartoon show.

Honestly, I don't blame you. I can't see how it's possible for anyone to take DBZ seriously anyway, when it doesn't even take ITSELF seriously.
I didn't watch much of it, you know, because the pacing just annoyed me. Shifting between ultra goofiness to screaming exploding alien men and waiting forever for any good parts. It's worse than HBO's Spawn. At least THAT show had some interesting characters and decently colored backgrounds. And the people actually talked like people most of the time.
And besides, "rock, paper, scissors?" Really? You know what you can do with that mess.

It would be decent if it wasn't so slow-paced. It's like the writers are scared to death of having to come up with any good plotlines so they stick with one for the entire season. It just makes for a lot of filler. Which is a pity because Vegeta gets most of his screen time devoted to monologuing, which just isn't fair.

.......Are you seriously hating on a show, just because of a rock-paper-scissors episodes, and, how long things can take in DBZ?

HA HA HA! "Am I seriously?" Are you for real?
Well I posted this thing, so I MUST be seriously. If I want to make fun of a show where pumped up musclemen scream their heads off and explode at each other, then that's exactly what I'm going to do. And why shouldn't I? I don't know where you're living, but I live in a free country. I'm an American, and I say piss off.

Damn, reading the comments left a lot of bad vibes for me! o.o This really is just for humor sakes but, unlike pretty much everyone who commented, I found the Ginyu Force to be one of my favorites next to Frieza. (I'm a bad-guy-liking-kinda-girl )
Their poses for a dork like me were addicting and I loved how they were so easy to catch off guard. Also, on a personal note, I like shit like ATHF xD Perfect for a good laugh after a tough day with tests! ^^

I like flamboyant villains too, but they pushed the envelope waaay too far, to the point of just being pathetically ridiculous. Like much of DBZ seems to do. I mean, honestly, rock-paper-scissors? It's just not cool.

I loved DBZ as a kid and have many fond memories of watching it with my dad and brother. I also love Aquateen Hunger Force... at least the first season. And now I love this very funny comic that mocks both of them.
Strangely, as annoyingly drawn-out as this part of the series was, the Ginyu Force are among my favorite characters. Probably because I find it hysterically funny just how damn ridiculously arrogant they are.

eh, I like the manga better. The anime has more filler B.S. than a WWE T.V. show.

Never cared for DBZ. The amount of countless screaming (insert bathroom joke here) is bit much for me. The Moonites took out Boston in less then a day (Er I heard was the one that screwed up on all WMD's that day). What have these DBZ villians ever done? As long as they stay out of the pool I'll be happy.

"No, you may not use my pool to grow a dog."
Yeah, I've got hundreds of scenarios involving horrible things happening to DBZ characters in my head, but sending "Recoome" to the carl wash seemed like a real winner. Using ATHF villains for the job just brings a welcome hint of disgrace to a show involving completely over-the-top fantasy action with giant musclemen screaming at the tops of their lungs and then exploding in giant fiery balls that are visible from space. When it comes to action toons, I demand plot and real acting along with the violence.
And yes, DBZ could never shut down Boston in less than a day. As a New Yorker, that really made me laugh.

Yeah, but what about sending the DBZ characters to the forest court? Or introducing them to Spaghetti? If you do have any more scenarios of horrible things happening to some other fictional character(s) please feel free to use ATHF . I agree for the most part on how you feel but when you get into "real acting" in action toons...Iβm not sure where youβre coming from but donβt stress it.
Oh, and you always knew those lightbrites were going to be trouble one day.

Ah, the forest court. Let me enjoy that mental image for a minute. That pink Boo guy, hanging upside down, getting his skin ripped off in sheets, then evicerated by a thousand branches of a great elm. Oh, those lovely screams.

Oh god, I think I hurt myself laughing when I read this.
Now, I'm a big, big, biiiiiiig DBZ fan. I've been watching it ever since Funimation and Cartoon Network began airing it about, like, what, ten years ago? I got addicted to it pretty easily and never missed an episode. xD
But it's stuff like this that makes me laugh my ass off because I know that some people do love to complain that it was just too long and too much filler. And I respect that. We all have our own opinions. Though I do love opinions like these because I find them even more hilarious.
Seriously, though.. XD I love this. It's great. *Snicker.*

No I didn't, and no need to be rude. I simply meant that, whether you love them or hate them, Ginyu Force art, fics etc. are some of the most entertaining and original within the dbz fandom (at least that I've found). Of course, artists such as really brought the Ginyus to life as darker, more complex characters and not one-dimensional goofballs employed for filler episodes, which is why I took an interest in them.

I tried to hide my first comment because on reflection, I realized that it really was unneccessarily rude. It's just that I have this intense hatred of DBZ that actually stems from the Ginyus, and I've kept my opinion on this matter hidden up until this point. That entire franchise just rubs me the wrong way, and when you're a big anime/manga fan anyway, it just keeps coming up like a bad trip. I needed to vent that hostility, hence a comic about violently removing the brains from helpless DBZ characters at the [figurative] hands of floating alien brains.

Oh no it's fine, believe me I know what you mean. I can really lose my temper about the show too and I was a part of that fandom for a while lol! The whole structure of the DBZ anime was just, er, well non-existent and the Super Saiyan x one billion power level etc. etc. got old fast. So I just moved onto other fandoms (like DC & Star Wars - behold my nerdom! ).
I personally loved the Ginyus, but like I said I was lucky enough to stumble upon some fantastic stories (with plot, le gasp!) and fanart that developed them as strong characters, often removed from the DBZ universe altogether. But as they are in the show/manga, I can totally see how they rub most people up the wrong way

Funniest comic strips I've read in a LONG time Ahh, poor DBZ. The only thing I love about it now is the Ginyu Force fandom (because it's full of things like this). The actual story, even the Ginyu/Namek sagas, leave something to be desired (Toriyama: character development? What is this thing you speak of? XDXD). Anyway, wonderful work!

You know, come to think of it, almost every episode was packed with like 15 minutes of filler. Talking over and over about the same thing, and recurring fight screenshots.
Yeah, you've got the right idea about that show.
And to think that they're coming out with a live-action movie of this series. It's gonna be two hours of special effects, and it's all because Hollywood has run out of ideas. They've been sucking movie themes from comics and older shows. And now animes.

NijuShotai [2008-06-08 20:15:25 +0000 UTC]
It's true. Some episodes, they only sit around talking, reusing screenshots and action motion scenes to fill the thirty minute slot. It takes them 15 minutes sometimes, and alot of insults, before launching a single attack.
Son't get me wrong, som episodes are good, but most of the 200+ aren't. It is a little overrated if I do say so myself.

Out of all of the lame villain characters I've had to endure, I despise the ginyu force the most. So this left me with a warm fuzzy feeling.

Well, I did try to give DBZ another chance later on. The second time I tuned in, it feature a pink blob man playing with a puppy, telling it to fear him. It was kinda goofy, and even cute, I'll admit. Then I see another version of this pink man, all ripped and angry, pulling an hourglass out of his puffy pants and waiting for... shit, I don't even know. I was beginning to smell a persistent trend of sitting around waiting for fights to start, and that's just not cool. So no, DBZ is out with me.
