Description
Ok, so this is my app forThe drawing its self took me like twenty minutes to get just how I wanted it (and even so, I got lazy on the feet, I'm sorry), but the coloring took me quite a few hours. This is like, my second or third time trying to do a full drawing on the computer, and my first time using the program sai, so I think it turned out ok, all in all. This is the first time I've colored or shaded something in... a long time lol, so I hope it's acceptable. I hope you guys like her (nervous)
Update: Ok so I redid the tail by myself and colored the dagger in. It looks decent so long as you don't look at it too closly lol. There were some complications with the program I use so it was a little difficult, but I managed
Name: Brysis Tylocos
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Species: Dragon
Job: Brysis has been thieving since she was a young girl. Despite being older and presented with other opportunities, she has chosen not to try working in anything else- as she has grown far to fond of sneaking and thieving to simply walk away from "the trade".
Talents: While Brysis cannot fly or cast magic to save her life, she does have a few, rather unorthodox, talents that come in handy during her many exploits.
(Note: All of Brysis's abilities are relative to her age and level. In other words, she is as much of an expert in sneaking or picking locks as someone with her amount of experience can possibly be, and others with more experience could easily outrank her. [Or rather, she is exceptional in these things for someone of her level, but she is nowhere near the highest level one can reach in any of these skills.] For someone of her amount of experience, she can be considered pretty pwnge in the below skills, even though older wiser thieves may consider her but a novice.[On a scale level of one hundred, I imagine she's only about level eighteen.])
Sneaky Sneak: "Why risk my neck in a fight when I can avoid one all together? Much less broken bones and severed limbs that way. At least in my experience."
"I don't need magic to make myself invisible"
Brysis's line of work has made her quite adept in the art of stealth. She is able to move swiftly and silently across almost any surface and knows how to blend herself just right into the shadows around her to become practically invisible to anyone not looking for her.
Acrobat: Brysis's small and slim frame help to make her an ideal acrobat. She is also extremely flexible, which has come in handy during quite a few heists.
Swordplay: Though Brysis would much rather avoid a fight all together, she is not without her skills. As a young girl, her mother trained her in the basics of swordplay, hoping that one day her daughter would take up her trade and become a warrior. Taking advantage of her size and physique, Brysis has formed a unique fighting style all her own which combines the basic skills her mother taught her with quick evasive maneuvers, stealthy strikes, and complex acrobatics. Her weapons of choice are a pair of daggers, which she always keeps with her. (Her fighting style is based off of the common rogue with a few tweaks to fit her strengths, more or less.)
Personality:
In depth summary:
Brysis is a free spirit who goes where she pleases, when she pleases, and damn anyone who tries to stop her. She's witty, personable, and can tell a hell of a story, which are just a few of the traits that seem to naturally attract people to her. (Something she takes full advantage of whenever she's able. After all, it's far easier to steal from a person who doesn't suspect that you'll pick their pockets and rob them blind.) Brysis loves to talk and will do so for hours if aloud, rambling on about interesting dreams she's had, an odd spot on the wall, and any other random things that pop into her head. When she isn't doing something that requires total stealth and sneakiness, she enjoys the spotlight and being the center of attention (though she does have her quiet moods, but for the most part, it would be a miracle for her to shut up for more than five minutes outside a job. The girl even talks in her sleep.) Many people tend to find her funny and she can (or at least will try to) make a joke out of almost any situation. All in all, she makes for a good drinking buddy, so long as one is sure to watch out for their coin.
Brysis has quite a few "friends" from all around the country, though none that she is particularly close to, as her flighty nature demands she not be chained down to any person, place, or thing for too long. For obvious reasons, this doesn't really give her much time to grow too attached to anyone before the open road begins to beckon and she's blown away on her next journey. For the most part, to be Brysis's "friend" simply means that you are someone that she is particularly fond of, and that if she is in your area she will most likely pay you frequent visits to chat and share stories (and eat your food), or possibly ask to crash at your place. Depending on how close you are, she will also try her hardest not to steal from you (her dearest friends know not to have their shiny valuables out while Brysis is on the premises.) Other than that, they are not people that she is actually particularly close to or that she confides in, though she will listen to them and offer comfort or advice if she has any should they find themselves in a hard place (though these situations make her uncomfortable, as she really doesn't like when things get too heavy or serious. Usually, if one comes up, she will do her best to make a joke out of it and brush it off or beat around the subject). Once she's done her business, she will leave (usually without saying goodbye) and that person will not hear from her again until she's back in their area. This isn't because she's afraid to get close to people or anything of the sort, it's just how she is, and it is the only sort of relationship her life style allows. The only real, close relationship she's had since her mothers death have been with a Nekomata boy who'd been her mentor and taught her to steal when she first came to live on the streets; and a black ally cat she calls Lord Kelthis, or L.K for short. While she is interested in the opposite sex, she has never been in any sort of romantic encounter (outside a brief experiment kiss, once) as she has never found a man (or woman, though her interest lies mostly in men, she's open minded to the idea of having another female companion) she deemed worth the time and effort.
On that note, Brysis is very cocky and the owner of the worlds largest head. Most of the bad spots she get's herself into come about from overestimating her skill or letting her cockiness overcome her during a fight or heist and not putting as much effort into them as she should. She's very difficult to work with, as she hates doing things any way but her own. Most who have worked with her before tend not to want to repeat the experience, though many still do because on big cases, the skills she brings to the table are useful and she gets the job done. (Which usually results in quite the profit for she and her partner[s]... when she's not running off with their share of the loot, that is. She has quite a few people who want to skin her alive for such reasons.)
She loves a good challenge, but only if she is able to beat it. If she fails at something once, she will usually deem it stupid and not worth her time, and will most likely never try it again. (Unless it is something that truly intrigues her, in which case she will become determined to master it, and won't give up until anywhere from two weeks to two months of trying, depending on her level of interest. Obviously, she doesn't always master these things, so when she doesn't she just gives up and pretends they don't exist because, you know, she's super mature like that
Brysis loves stories and tales, whether she's in the audience or the one telling the tale. She only has one rule when it comes to stories, and that's that they must be told well. When in a town or city she will spend most of her time in the local taverns, scouting for marks and listening for rumors of treasures and trinkets to be found, but mostly, she'll just sit and listen to the locals tell their stories and occasionally throw in a few of her own. When she visits her friends, she sometimes spends hours regaling them with tales of her latest adventures, (with a few embellishments added, of course.) Had her life gone differently, she would have make for an excellent bard.
She is very embarrassed by her illiteracy, and becomes quickly flustered and prickly whenever a situation comes along that brings it to light. (This is especially true when these situations occur around other people. On top of being mortifying for her, it is also a flaw that she must admit- which is something she hates doing even to herself.)
Brysis does not discriminate her marks based upon their apparent wealth; when it comes to thieving, anyone is fair game for the young rogue. (However, she does bare an unexplainable disgust for nobility, so stealing from any member of a noble house is always a bonus in her book.) She will not hesitate to steal from the rich, the poor, the in between, or even other thieves. The only people truly off limits are children (unless they are thieves as well, or are in possession a particularly delicious looking pastry, in which case they are fair game) and the destitute poor (unless they have food and she hasn't eaten all day.) Her code of honor is very short, and very flexible to suit her needs. The only inflexible rule she has and absolutely will not break is her rule to never kill, whether it be on the job or on the streets. (Unless of course the situation truly calls for it.) If there is one good quality she possesses, it is her strong sense of mercy and her belief that everyone should have the right to live out their lives to their fullest potentials- a right which she does not have the authority to take away. In a fight, she will stun and cripple her opponents with well placed strikes, but will not take their life unless hers is still in danger.
On a related note: Brysis holds her life in very high value, and while she is a good enough fighter, she really prefers to avoid a battle all together. (She is a bit of a coward in this aspect, which she will openly admit.) If she can run away rather than fight, she will always choose the former.
Brysis' doesn't particularly care about wealth or money, though she does appreciate fine things. Rather, she continues to thieve because she loves the rush of stealing and the challenge of a good heist more than anything in the world. If it ever got boring for her, she would stop doing it and move onto something else. As it is, there are few things she finds more fun then a big sweep or a good con. Being a dragon, she has an unnatural fascination with all things that sparkle and shine, particularly jewels and other such treasures. If she sees any item of the sort, she just can't help but to steal it, and she usually hordes all of these treasures for herself rather than trying to sell them to a fence. Most of the jewelry she wears are such items.
Personality in a nutshell (summery):
Good qualities: Values life, talented, fun to be around/magnetic personality, good at what she does, and though it rarely comes out because of her brain constantly being in selfish, survival mode, she really does have a big heart.
Not so nice qualities: Almost completely lacks honor, values, and morals: kleptomaniac, flighty, rather short attention span, personality is only attractive until you've worked with her or get to know her better, in which case her flaws become all too apparent (at that point, it's love her or hate her). Arrogant (regarding skills), immature, hard to work with, rarely takes things seriously, bad with dealing with real emotions (like anger, sadness, or even the miner issue of being upset), be they hers or other peoples. Subsequently, she's not good at dealing with loaded situations and will do whatever she can to avoid them, escape them, or make light of them. She's not afraid to feel, on the contrary, she loves good feelings like happiness, love, and all those, but since she's not used to dealing with serious situations, they make her feel uncomfortable. Really, it all goes back to her great dislike of taking things seriously. Because she's completely clueless when it comes to these feelings and its hard for her to understand and recognize them in herself, much less other people, it can be said that she has very little empathy. Thick skinned and lacking in guilt (for the most part, when she does feel it, she usually blocks it out, as it's another one of those feelings that makes her uncomfortable.) Confidence that verges on, and sometimes results in, poor judgment. Does not recognize the impact of her actions, or rather, it could be said she just doesn't care.
Neutral qualities: Lives on the edge/ needs excitement to feel alive, forceful in getting what she wants (can be quite ruthless, even, depending on how much she wants it), seeks thrills and is up for anything, especially involving risk and speed. Extroverted, independent, and impulsive (which can also be considered a fault, depending on how you choose to view it.) Like any successful thief who loves their work, she is not bothered by rules and social conventions. Energetic/ always on the go, bold with a very strong, dominant personality type, competitive, often unaware of the feelings of others. Persistent. While in a romantic realationshio, however, she becomes the more submissive partner, at least in most aspects.
History: (Try and be as in depth about their background stories as you can) <-(You will regret saying this .__.)
Brysis's mother was a warrior who acted as a soldier during times of war and became a guard for a noble family afterward. It was during this time that she met Brysis's mysterious father, who she refused to speak of to anyone, even Brysis herself. Once she found out she was pregnant, she left the city and her post without so much as a goodbye note and went to live with her brother who lived in a small but comfortable home located in a busy trading city. For reasons unknown, Brysis was born without any wings, and as she became older it became evermore apparent that her skills in magic were...well, lacking, to put it kindly (though since magic was such a dangerous and uncommonly used force anyway, this bore little if any significance.) Though this often made her the subject of nasty snickering and mean name calling from the other dragon children, she was still well loved by her mother and uncle and never felt as though she were missing out. (Though she did spend most of her early childhood resenting the fact she couldn't fly and trying her best to learn despite the handicap she was born with.)
Her mother trained her extra hard from the earliest possible age in the art of swordplay, hoping that her daughter would one day become an exceptional enough swordsman to make it as a soldier in the dragoons. Despite not having many friends, Brysis was a rather happy child, content to spend time training and helping her mother with chores or listen to her uncles wild stories of swashbuckling pirates who sailed the sea in search of treasure and adventure. Often she would imagine that she were a pirate, going off on adventures on the high seas to see the world; especially the winterlands where there were chunks of ice larger than her house floating in the water and snow always falling from the sky (or so her uncle said in his stories.) She spent many hours of her child hood dreaming and daydreaming of the day she could leave her small home and go off to see everything the world had to offer her, just like the heroes in her uncles stories.
While her uncle meant well, he was a drunk and a gambler, and a bad one, at that. In order to help him pay off his debts and keep his home, her mother worked three jobs: as a seamstress, a dish washer at a bakery, and a sweep at a blacksmiths shop, all the while still finding time to raise her young daughter, clean up after her brother, and do all of the household chores. So of course, when she fell deathly ill when Brysis was but twelve-years-old, it really shouldn't have come as much of a surprise. However, it did, and slowly but surly Brysis watched as her strong, amazing mother withered while the best doctors and healers around sat helpless to do anything about it. Though the house was much less warm and cheery and the atmosphere much less comforting and loving now that her mother was gone, Brysis trudged through and took on her mothers household duties while her uncle began drinking even more heavily and gambling even more frequently.
About two months had passed since her mothers death when Brysis's uncle came stumbling into the modest house the two of them shared, followed closely by a group of smirking men wearing armor and sporting impressive looking weapons. Her uncle had apparently gone way in over his head and bet far more than what he was good for in a game of cards. This wasn't really anything new, except this time, the men he'd bet against weren't townspeople or buddies at the tavern who would let him go and only hassle him about his debt every month or so. These men were the real deal, and they were threatening to kill him if they didn't get their money. Brysis's uncle was not a smart man sober, and he had been drunk out of his mind and desperate, so he came up with the only idea he could to pay off his debt: he offered to let them take his niece.
The men accepted her uncles deal and took her from her home. They planned to take Brysis to Emerald City, where she would be sold on the illegal slave market, probably as a whore to a random brothel. Brysis did not want such a fate for herself, and hatched a plan for escape. She remained calm and compliant, biding her time until finally, the timing was right. On the fourth night of their journey to the capital, Brysis bit into the arm of the man charged with dressing her and ran as fast as she could. She got caught the first time, but as luck wound have it, her captives weren't all to bright and she was able to escape again the next night while everyone was sleeping. She ran as fast as she could for hours, hiding up in the trees when she no longer had the energy to run. She spent two days evading them and sneaking through the woods to avoid them before she was finally found by a traveling merchant who saw her sitting on a rock off the side of the road. The merchant offered to give her a ride the rest of the way to the capital and Brysis took it in a heartbeat. Within a few days she was in a new city with a new start. (Looking back, Brysis can't help but see the whole thing as absolutely hilarious, and it has become one of her favorite tales to share.)
The first thing Brysis did was try to join on with a group of pirates and go on adventures like the ones her uncle used to tell her about in his stories. Sadly, this was not to be. When she presented herself to the captain and his shipmates they simply laughed and shooed her away. She then tried sneaking on board with the cargo, determined to prove her worth to the crew once they were out and sea and they couldn't send her away, but she was quickly caught before the box she was hiding in even made it onto the ship. Denied her dream of sailing the high seas, Brysis turned to the streets where she met a young Nekomata boy. He was only a few years older than herself, but he'd been living off the streets since he was only six-years-old and knew many things that she didn't, like how to fish your next meal out of a strangers pocket and how to sneak into peoples basements and attics for a warm place to sleep when the weather was cold. He took her under his wing and became her tutor in the arts of sneaking and stealing- like how to pick locks and pockets and then vanish before anyone even knew she was there. He taught her things like how to pay attention to the guards and their patrols and schedules; how to watch their habits to find out which ones were the most dutiful and strict and which ones fell asleep on their watch or slacked off in taverns; which were exploitable as well as which ones should always be avoided. He taught her how to escape sticky situations, and how to utilize the use of two daggers, smoke bombs, and her own body instead of a sword and shield in a fighting style that allowed her to get in close to her opponents and use her flexibility and keen eyes to exploit their weak points as well as evade their attacks. They worked as a pair for nearly a year and a half before they were busted while robbing the house of a high class family. While they were running from the guards, Brysis tripped, allowing the guards enough time to gain up on her. Her partner stopped to help her up so they could continue their escape, but it was already too late. The guards were almost on them and if something wasn't done, than both of them would be caught. In the end, the boy made the sacrifice of staying behind to distract the guards so that Brysis could make her escape.
While the boy had been the closest thing to a friend Brysis had ever had and she was rather fond of him, (not to mention eternally grateful for all of his help), nearly two years living on the streets had taught her that sometimes sacrifices were required to survive, and it was either her hide or his. Faced with the option of her survival or her mentors, she did what almost any other street kid with half a brain and the desire to live would do in her position and ran for it. She still doesn't know what became of the boy who'd taken her in and become her first friend and teacher, but she never did see him again.
A few weeks after the incident, Brysis was sitting in an ally, about to munch down on a piece of cooked fish she'd just stolen when a cat came up to her and looked up at hear with large, pleading eyes. The scrawny creature let out a pitiful mew, and put one of its tiny paws on Brysis's leg.
Brysis hadn't eaten in days and was starving. She glared at the cat and tried ignoring it, but the damned thing was too cute and persistent for Brysis's willpower to stand up against. Reluctantly, she gave the cat half of her fish, which the creature swallowed in one gulp before racing away. That night, as Brysis sat in a different ally, this time tending to a sprained ankle she'd just received from yet another heist gone wrong, the cat showed up again with a half eaten mouse hanging from its maw. The cat dropped it's catch at her feet and mewed, looking up at her expectantly. For a moment she was confused and stared at the offered mouse with a quizzical expression before turning to the cat. The creature dipped it's head toward the mouse and let out another cheerful mew, and it dawned on her that the cat expected her to eat it. Not wanting to eat a half eaten mouse, yet not wanting to be rude to the creature who was so nicely offering her half of his meal, she smiled at the cat and rubbed her belly.
"Mmmm, that looks yummy, but I already ate dinner and I'm stuffed full. You go ahead and eat it for me though, since you took all that time and effort to catch it and what not" she lied. The cat let out another happy meow and rubbed it's head on her leg. Brysis smiled and offered the tiny creature a small scratch behind it's soft ear. The two were best buds from that point on.
Just three months after, an event occurred that shook Brysis to her core. As she slept, another thief came to the place where she made her bed and tried making off with some of the treasures she'd stolen that day. Brysis woke up in time to see the thief running away, and chased the hooded stranger down until they reached a dead end. Cornered, the other thief dropped the bag of loot and drew their daggers, lunging at Brysis who was forced to do the same in order to defend herself. Growing ever more frustrated as she continued to defend herself against the onslaught of the other rogues relentless attacks, Brysis eventually had enough and switched to the offensive, letting her aggression and the adrenaline of the moment take over. Soon the two were engaged in an all out duel, each rogue trying to sneak around and get a good stab in the others weak points with no real success's on either side.
Finally, Brysis managed to knock her opponent to the ground, but the other thief would not give up and tried reaching for their dagger in hopes of a surprise attack. Brysis caught the movement out of the corner of her eye and in a reflexive move, threw her dagger at the wounded thief which landed in their throat, killing whoever the person was. Brysis was shocked. She'd never killed a person before. When she went to look at the thiefβs face, she found that it was a young boy, quite a few years younger than herself, who would now never get the chance to grow up and explore all the opportunities life had for him- to experience the thrill of another heist or the tickley sensation of a calm midnight wind blowing through his hair. Brysis made her first and only unbreakable rule that night: never again would she kill another person unless the situation absolutely called for it. She would never again be responsible for stealing someones life and robbing them of the opportunity to live.
The moon continued to wax and wane, and eventually, four whole years had passed since her initial arrival in the city. Brysis decided it was about time for a change of scenery. She'd spent enough time here, and now she was itching to get out and see the world, (well, what she could of it,) and left the capital to go traveling from town to town, meeting new people and stealing what she could along the way, a lifestyle she maintains to this very day.
Extra Scraps and Pieces:
-Brysis is a terrible cook and an even more terrible nurse. One of the reasons she tends to avoid fights is because she knows there is no hope for her should she have to tend to herself with anything more serious than a sprained ankle or a small cut.
-Brysis IS able to cast magic, she's just very bad at it. Her spells never come out the way she wants them to (and by that I mean when she tries to cast a dark spell it comes out a fire spell and when she tries casting ice spells she winds up summoning demonic plants from alternate dimensions.) Spells also take up much more energy for her to use than others of her species. Depending on the power level of the spell, the use of magic can result in sideeffects ranging from severe fatigue the rest of the day, all the way to blackouts that can last for days. Not even the best scholars have been able to figure out why it's so, but using magic just results in greater soul drain for her then it does in others. (Though one healer in particular did make the joke that she might just be allergic to it.) Despite her "handicaps", she takes pride in being "all natural" and relying on her own natural skill to aid her rather than using the added power of magic. (Though she does this mostly to feed her ego, since most people don't use magic anyway. Most just let her think what she likes, though.)
-During one of her heists, an enemy managed to cut off part of her horn, which she keeps on by tying it to the piece still attached with bandages or a piece of cloth.
-Brysis cannot read or write. She never payed attention during lessons, due to her (then even shorter) attention span. After her mum died, she just never learned and doesn't believe she could anyway. (Her smarts are the one thing she ISN'T confident about, though she would still pretend to be for the sake of appearances.)
-Brysis is secretly a hopeless romantic. She loves the idea of love, and does hope to meet someone "worthy" of her affections one day so that maybe they can travel and adventure together. In her opinion, any good story worth telling has at least a dash of romance in it.
-On a related note, though she puts on the act of being "experienced" she's probably the biggest prude ever and will blush furiously should anyone return her flirting or make a dirty remark before stammering an excuse to leave the room.
-Brysis can play a little lute, though her skills are a tad rusty from lack of use. Once she warms up it tends to sound rather decent though. Just never ask her to sing.
-Brysis's fighting style is based off of Tallis, from Dragonage II

;__; Omigosh thank you.
Her hair was the most fun thing to draw, I love sketchig and doodling her just to play around with it in all it's crazyess and try out different styles But by far, making her story and just creating the concept of her character brought me way more joy and entertainment than it probably should have. Thanks so much for your kind words, I really appreciate them, and though I'm a total n00b to the world of rping, I'd love to take you up on your offer sometime

You're most welcome. ^^
And hah! I know the feeling. XD I have another character with crazy hair, and it is just too fin to draw.
LOL. I admittedly got lazy on some of my character profile writing. Mainly because I develop characters through RP'ing, and hate to give away too much in their background info. Gotta leave some mystery and intrigue, right?
Hah, my brain has been dying recently so I think we'll be evenly matched. >w< If you ever feel the urge to RP, just drop me a note! I'd be happy to start one. ^_~

I thought about that and tired to hold back, but I just went crazy, I even went as far as to develope her mothers backstory and the backstory of the kid who taught her how to survive on the streets (but I keep these for me lol.) I can't help but get crazy and detailed haha.
My brain has been dying too! I think it's going around lol.
And if you want to start one up, sure, I'm up for it ;D!

Too many roleplay disease I think.
