I totally wasn't watching the anime "Gankutsuou" over the last three days, and I certainly didn't become a fan of all of the friendly interactions between Albert and the Count. Same thing goes for their relationship and Albert's feelings towards him. ABSOLUTELY not.
Who am I kidding? I really liked this anime, even if it had some flaws and unanswered questions. Even its infamous artstyle managed to impress me, from an artistic standpoint, of course. I'm not into shipping Albert and the Count together, but I do like to imagine they both were spending some quality time together both in Rome and Paris. Albert was interested in Count's character, the mystery behind him and hearing about all of his adventures, while the Count was more interested in getting Albert's complete trust, use him and get to Paris and crush his revenge plan on his enemies. Despite that, I also like to think that even the Count was willing to halt his revenge plan for a bit and give Albert some moral support when the boy truly needed it, like when the Count saw that Albert is in need of a friend or he just needs to escape from his problems for a while.
Whether it was because he cared about him, or he just wanted to give the boy some peace of mind before the terrifying wave of justice?... I'm not sure.
And, no, I do not consider Monte Cristo to be Albert's biological father.

There's so many things that I really like about this picture. The expression of Scootalbert is just totally adorable, it is filled with the sense of childlike wonder which you captured really well. The background with all its different light blurred together shows to me that there's a lot going on in the town, but right at this moment it doesn't concern both the Count and Scootalbert as their focus is on each other. And the Counts expression is just perfect, it really shows a mix between very conflicting emotion inside the Count. If you look at his right eye, you can see how he looks at Scootalbert in a very warm and caring way, but on his other eye that is obscurred by his hair, you can see his scheming side, where he pictures him as just a tool for his plans. This duality in his expression alone makes the picture amazing for me, but everything else is really sublime as well

I heard of the anime version of The Count of Monte Cristo, but I never watched Gankutsuou. I just couldn't get into it. Regardless I'm glad you enjoyed the anime and this is a nice picture you made to depict the relationship between Albert and the Count.
I also like to believe that Edmond initially planned to delay his plans for revenge...but when he saw Mondego with his one love Mercedes all remnants of mercy left his body. But I think he did have some guilt, after his plans began to unfurl and what he did hurt Albert, Valentine and other people who all became guilty by association of their fallen community pillars.

I agree with that last statement. I've followed the Count of Monte Cristo lore reading that Albert was Mondego's son through and through, no matter where I looked, so to suddenly hear some theories insist that he's Edmond's son is appalling. And kind of stupid, if I'm allowed to be blunt.

All this comes from the 2002-movie, where they really wanted a "Happy End" to the story, so they made it that Edmond and Mercedes come back together in the end and it turns out that Albert is actually their child. Then they live happily ever after, totally subverting the entire point of the story of "The Count of Monte Cristo" x)

I'm a firm shipper of Albert and the count (entirely because of the anime) but to each their own. Still, I like this platonic relationship you've shown. It gives the count a chance to see a bit of himself in Albert, enjoying himself with the knowledge that someone is happy despite all the shit that happened to him. I kind of wonder if the count ever thought that Albert being alive was one of the god things to come out of his misfortune. It'd be interesting, right?

Gankutsuou is amazing, I still think that it has the best Haydeè scene ever, is so wonderful

The scene with Haydee actually raised quite a lot of questions in my head, so it didn't really made it up to my top 5 favorite moments from the anime, sadly
I really liked how they developed the drama between Albert and Eugenie though, that's a thing that the novel really missed out a golden opportunity on.
("Posdata" I think translates as "Postscript", or "P.S", but I'm not entirely sure. My Spanish is really bad xD)

The book also didn't do anything with the sons of the "villains", they just apear and that's all XD
Eugenie was one of the better characters in the anime (with Captain Morrel, even Cavalcanti, I thought that he would be awful in that xD), although Franz is still the best to me in the anime
By the way, the anime took too many liberties to told the storie some make it better and other not too much
