Me (in a comment on a fanfiction) - What is going on with Buccaneer? He's supposed to be dead by this time isn't he?Author - Buck is supposed to be dead, but lets pretend that didn't happen shall we? He and Olivier are too cute together for him to die.
Me - Cute together, like a couple? Meh Idk I don't ship them but whatever. I can accept the slight AU of him surviving the fight with Wrath.
Author - But then who do you ship Olivier with?
Me- No one.
Author - but you HAVE to ship her with SOMEONE!!
Me - If I did HAVE to it would be Miles, or maybe a love/hate on/off relationship with Mustang, but I don't HAVE to. I just don't feel the need to ship her.
Author - She needs to be in love because she is the lonely ice queen!!! And Mustang only loves Edward!
I stopped replying to the author after that. Navel battles are not my specialty. I can't swim all that well.
But really what is the problem with an attractive character being single? I don't understand some people thinking every character has to have a bf/gf. If that's the was they role, fine, but please let me have my ships or lack there of in peace. *sigh.
I actually don't ship Mustang with anyone either. Not even Riza. The RoyEd thing is a whole other nest of bagworms...

I find nothing wrong whit a single or asexual character, it can be very interesting too. I prefer a lot more a single character than a forced romance (specially if the author dislikes or is bad writing romantic stuff).

Oh I love romance, and I have my fair share of ships. Some are canon some are not. But it makes no sense to me when an author ships two characters, even two characters who are friends, together for no better reason than they have to be with someone. I think we both agree

But personally hate when an author make a paring whiteout a explanation nor proper development. Many of the books and series that I like (Naruto, Maze Runner and the hunger games) end ruining themselves for trying to add romance to the story. Besides it will be pretty interesting a story where the main character has not romantic feelings towards anyone and instead focuses more in adventure, drama or his family and friends.
