tada, fixed a little, I messed up onna bunch of stuff, but y'know what, i'm not caring so much cuz I just wanna get the idea across, and have my mistakes not be BLARINGLY obvious.GOSHDARNITRATCHETYOURMOUTH. Its so hard to get him an expression to convey the emotion! I'm going for more surprise and mild concern, not fear, like it looks here. I might work with the optic more to do that, but i just got it sorta how i want it too, and i don't wanna erase all that work ;A;
Lol ignore his hand too, its so derpy auuuugh. (I need to spend a day just practicing hands!) Probably no more sketchdumps until the final project now guys. sorry
I DON'T OWN TRANSFORMERS.

I almost wanna say this looks out of place on Ratchet--like he should be a younger medic in training. "Slag... UH, WUT? NO YOU'RE FINE. ohgodIhopehedoesn'tnoticeit...." It so odd seeing him NOT grumpy.
I think this turned out pretty well. The pose comes off in a reluctant 'crap that wasn't supposed to happen' surprised look. Also: shuddap about that hand: it's fine. Its doesn't quiiiiite match the surprised pose if I had to nitpick, but it doesn't look bad.

thats another thing that bothered me, how out of character this expression is. Probably because i made his eyes very wide and round- giving him an appearance of youth. Too late i noticed in the show his eyes remain very very oblong, no matter if he widens them or not. at least i know now...
but lol, i can totally imagine that scene... pffft-
I'm glad 'crap that wasn't supposed to happen' is the vibe here, thats pretty close to what i'm going for. and the HAND. AUGH. I need more practice to make them more expressive.
Thank you so much for your constructive comment- im glad when i get one that isn't just "lol thats cool herpaderp" *shrugs* i guess all comments are good, but in-depth onese like this are the most helpful. thank you!

I started Prime but I stopped around the Scraplets episode. I need to play catch up >>
Young Ratchet could be fun--it's made me wonder what he was like before the war and before the took it toll on him. He can't have always been THAT grumpy or experienced as a medic. XD
Again, it's not a bad hand, I just don't think the posing of it quite lends itself to the emotion you were trying to portray. Practice is practice and it's good that you recognize it as something you need to work on. Lord knows I run across enough people on here who fly off the handle bars. I'm glad to see another artist who's willing to take CC and admit they need help. The hard part is finding folks willing to stand up and NOT sugarcoat things when you need the feedback. :U

The episodes following the scraplets one are really good! I reccomend the catch-up!
XD i would laugh if he were like Miko when he was younger: all spontaneous and crazy! Then i'd probably feel sad after considering what horrors he'd have to see to erase that happy-go-luckyness. ;_;
*nods* i try not to get to hard on myself- i'm still learning, but sometimes its easy to forget that and get frustrated. But ur right, even if this didn't exactly turn out how i wanted, it still helped me learn. Thats really how i tend to measure the success of a drawing.
baw, thank you, and Oh my goodness. Those people that flip out whenever you make the teensey-est comment that isn't gushing sugar and tears of joy...
On the other side of the coin, there are those people who take it upon themselves to bestow judgement from upon high about other artist's lowly works that have the misfortune to not have been created by the hands of gods like themselves. *seethes* i've never had the bad luck of someone commenting like that on my profile, but i have seen it on others. >: P

Haha, I'll have to! I've been meaning to catch-up but a friend of mine sent me links to all the seasons of Merlin and I've been watching that.
Oh geez, I cannot fathom a hyper Ratchet. I've almost got him pictured as JD from Scrubs in my head and something about the imagery is just so wrong. XD
Kinda funny to mention, but my friend got me a book called "I am better than your kids" . While I agree Maddox goes above and beyond in a rather cruel way, I also find it funny. Though what cemented my love for this author (and his very large ego) is how in the very beginning of the book he explains how Mozart wasn't coddled. This lack of empty praise from his father, from whom he sought approval, pushed him to try harder to create things worthy of praise.
One of my favorite quotes from that introduction is "Creators who can endure critics are the only ones who deserve to be creators. That is, anyone whose resolve is too weak to weather criticism of his or her art, shouldn't be creating art." Because while I agree anyone can go out and create and we all have to start somewhere, it takes artists with spines to proudly stand next to what they create.

AAAAUGH hyper Ratchet shall be my nightmare fuel for the next month... ;A;
XD oh wow, i can't tell if that guy's funny, truthful, overly cruel, or all three.
That is a really really good quote. I agree with it totally- to ever give something any sort of value or quality- opposition and difficulty must be faced to do so. Creating a crappy piece of art that gets lots of compliments feels so empty- but whenever there's that one piece of art that you struggled over and believe in as the absolute best you can do- and lays out the feelings and emotions you have inside you- thats whats truly makes something art. And when you stand by that piece of art because you know it has flaws and you want to learn from them, thats what makes an artist

LMAO I've seen sparkling fics here and there--read a really good Jazz one a while back--but I've yet to see a sparkling!Ratchet fic. Grrr Y they no exist?!?!
I'd say all three. The intro includes him saying he's kept up with his writing career--and has now been published for all his hardwork and assholishness--because it's the best "Fuck you" to his mom and the college he graduated at. Apparently both gave him a lot of hell for his choices and I'll agree from personal experience that proving someone wrong to an extent like that is rather satisfying. lol
I hate getting torn down, but it's really when I learn best and I think it's something that sticks with a lot of folks. You humiliate someone over a mistake and there are some good odds that if the person's got enough spine left after you've torn it out they're try hard to make sure that experience doesn't happen again. Harsh way to learn, but I see it as a double win since it helps you learn how to deal with criticism as well.

>____< oooh ow horrible spine extracting images in my head. Agreed tenfold! It absolutely sucks eggs, and sometimes cuts you down too far, but when you've been discouraged almost too much, thats where suppourtive sites like DA can help you out, i've found. ^_^

IDK, I don't think you can cut someone down too far. Call it my reaction to living around my mom's side of the family (since they're a bunch of Maine fishermen who don't believe in coddling), but if you get knocked down it's up to you alone to stand up again. The art world couldn't give a damn if you decide to give up--that just means less competition--and if you're doing it to spite someone for being too mean, that's no skin off their nose, it's on you for giving up something you enjoy.
I think support is good--great even if you can find other artists to really talk to--but I also think relying on that support to feel good about your art is also damaging.
Blah, sorry, I've totally gotten off track from the original comment here. I hope you don't mind my blathering here. >_>

I don't know, i'm a firm believer in moderation in all things. Having heavy opposition in life will make you heartier, such as pruning tree will make it healthier, however having your artistic joy completely quashed by overly-cruel hate for your art at too young of an age, or stage in drawing, is like completely hacking down a young tree, if that makes sense.
Also, relying on others approval is probably one of the worst things an artist can do in my opinon. Art is translating your soul to a medium- its not a popularity contest. Relying on popularity will warp your creations into a twisted version of what your art could be, i believe.
no no no, its fine, i really like in-depth convorsations! Thats what DA was made for, sharing and discussion!

Makes perfect sense. I don't quite agree with it considering my own methods, but at the same time I can see where it would be useful and beneficial.
Same. I can understand keeping an eye on feedback and the like to understand what your audience enjoys if you're attempting to cater to a specific group if you're working, but for personal projects and fun, that just seems ridiculous.

EXACTLY *tears hair out in frustration* so many artists just focus on that, or attention hogs draw stuff just for people to go "lol cool"

Lol XD Yeah I get a loooooooooottttttt of that over at my HHM club. =___= My rule is only pair OC's with other OC's and never make an OC outshine a RC. So far the only TF OC's I've made are just reimagenings of real characters.
Like in my RP's/stories I took Munka Spanka a real character and made him Jazz's father. I took First Aid and made him a little pissy femme bot for serving humans. The only real OC I went all out to make was the son of Optimus and Jazz, Firestone! A fat llil babeh. XD
