A personal anthro character piece I did for practice.
"Some say the universe is dead.
Some believe the stars are indifferent, uncaring, that there is nothing in outer space but our frail humanity.
I know better.
The year was 1957, and the Space Race had just begun.
It was a game of one-ups.
The Soviet Union, my former homeland, wanted to be the first. The first to launch an intercontinental missile, the first to put a satellite in orbit...
...and the first to send a living being to space.
So they chose me.
Even then, I knew I was destined for something greater.
Even then, I looked to the stars with wonder and adoration.
What I didn't know, was that they never planned for me to come home..."
