Description "As promised, here are the two sides of Colonel Mustard's Handcannon. As far as mechanics go, an internal boiler is activated and begins heating water within the weapon upon the flip the switch located on the lower left hand side of the gun, in turn building up steam with the intent of lethal/non-lethal power indicated by the gauge on the right hand side. Once in the red, shoot to kill; less than that could be stun, or maim respectively. The glass indicator valve allows the user to know how much water is left within the internal boiler before adding more through the hatch located within the priming wall (where one loads the shell). Excess steam and heat is released from the right hand valve as a precautionary measure to prevent damage to the user after each shot. Approximate fire/reload time between shots, with the boiler prepped, is 60 seconds give or take your time to reload the shell, as the boiler remains actively building pressure between firing once the trigger is released. A 3-5 minute warm up is required for the internal boiler based on the electric heating coil within, so that said, make sure you know if you're heading into a fire fight. Keep your eyes open and your trigger finger at the ready....oh, and lean into the shot. She packs a punch."

very nice, i haven't really looked into the new zombie series for modding yet but after seeing what you did to this sledgefire, i'm gonna have to try it. the weapon description is very detailed, and makes sense, which i always good if you plan to use it with a costume as certain people will pick you apart if it doesn't all match up. overall, a beautiful blaster

Thank you much sir. I'm glad to hear of someone that knows how much cosplayers pick brains about details. I'm always wondering about how it works, or the logistics of firing a round with lethal velocity using steam and such. Thanks !

always remember, while steam is an essential part of steampunk aesthetic, feel free to use other methods of firing, such as the simple firing pin, but with such guns, the trick is making it look like steam or gears are required to load or operate the weapon. also, liquids are a good thing to try, such as vials and bottles of various chemicals(colored water). with those, the most common types of firing are that the liquid is internally solidified and then fired, or it is used as a combustive solution that actually propels the bullets instead of gunpowder or another explosive.

That sounds like a plan to me... Lol... one of the things I am going to be doing with a Hammershot is turning it into a single shot Flintlock pistol for the L.A.R.P. game I am currently playing... I need something longer then a firestrike and a Hammershot just looks cooler then a Firestrike...

WhimsicalCaptnJ In reply to Ginsu85 [2013-08-20 00:00:24 +0000 UTC]

so why not do what I did with my Firestrike? check out my Pion Popper. It's a copper barrel but you could pick up a slightly bigger PVC barrel to build a rustic style p-38 hybrid. thoughts?

Ginsu85 In reply to WhimsicalCaptnJ [2013-08-20 00:47:47 +0000 UTC]

Because its not Just the barrel... It's how thick the Hammershot it... I like the way it looks and the fact that I only have to use my thumb to prime it... it's more the style then just the length...

true enough. curious why you want to make it a single shot unit though when it's a 5 shot revolver

It's for a larp game I am playing... my character is bringing guns into their world and their not going to allow me to make a multishot weapon... since the hammershot has everything I am looking for to make a great single shot weapon it is what I am going to do, probably with more then one... however not with the first couple I will be buying... lol...

Intriguing. seems curious enough. I would recommend the Firestrike for a single fire pistol since you'd have 4 empty chambers in the hammershot as a single unit, but to each his/her own

It's going to be a while before I actually start that project, I have another one in the works that I am doing and Silver and Blue theme for one Hammershot, and Gold and Red theme for another Hammershot with storage boxes that match the color scheme and a smaller ammo storage box to fit it them as well... it kind of a Birthday/Christmas present for myself and my best friend... But yeah I will definitely check it out and see what she looks like... if she is a beautiful piece as you say (and are truthful about considering what I've seen from you so far) I will leave comment to let you know my thoughts...

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the inspiration enough to get out there and do some yourself. That's how I got started long ago with my projects. I appreciate the mention of the Log. Much of my work is based on the concept of pitches or sales views from Capt'n J my thief-turned-salesmen of pieced together arms. So I love when people enjoy his whimsy.

I got started on steampunk from an odd source--Panic at The Disco. One of their music videos is full of steampunk stuff, and I just enjoyed it. Took me a while to get super involved, but now I have a character of my own (still working on just who he is and what he does, but still). And it is well-written, I can see why he's a salesman

Firstly I love the water part! You cant beat Nerf Guns with added parts ^_^ I think your steam gauge while an interesting concept would be better as a print out rather than painted on (It looks painted to my eyes but i'm half blind) for a bit more added realism and crisper lines. I particularly like the handle with the leather effect which is both detailed and realistic, I also think your choice of Yellow is interesting and not something iv seen anyone else do.Β

WhimsicalCaptnJ In reply to Gloomymort [2013-08-18 23:09:47 +0000 UTC]

I find that as earth tones are the main color scheme of the steampunk world, several key colors are overlooked as they are considered too "bright". Yellow being one of them. Agreed that sunburst bright yellow is way too clean an bright, but a dingy mustard yellow certainly pops against metal and yet fits the scheme. I am also a fan of olive green as you will see if you check out Green Piece, my other shotgun/hand cannon. And Patriot Act, my steam sniper rifle. Much detailing left to do for sure. I do like the idea of printing our my details but at the same time, when considering that I am a supposed mechanic working in the steam era on refurbished weaponry for fallen soldiers and guards for the queen, I find that hand painting adds a detail of bothΒ "skill" and "trashy" nature. Since I am after all I am aΒ junk builder, lol. That's the thought anyway. I really appreciate the feedΒ back though. Few people post long thoughts anymore, and true artisans need thisΒ kind of view to improve their craft. Thanks.

Personally I love greens as you have seen with the mavs, Reds which are in my newest Outfit (wont be on here till after Asylum) and Blues which I currently haven't used.
I think over all I prefer Green Piece, its tones and shades are VERY nice as is your wood effect the only thing that lets it down to my mind is the Nerf Logo.
Have you considered the possibility that altho you are working on refurbished weapons that you might still find the print outs you might need from other sources? Other gauges and what not, especially if your building in a junk yard.

As for people not posting long thoughts its probably coz they don't want to cause offence, I never crit/leave feedback unless asked ^_^

Heh, this is after all an art forum. If people take offense they probably aren't as open-minded as they would like to appear. I can see getting parts from various sources, and in most cases I am inclined to agree when it comes to commissions for those buying my work. My personal props I like to put a bit more hand painting into since I enjoy a little more whimsy. That said I will be looking into prints down the road for sure. Typically I would use an actual gauge and apply it directly to the gun as needed but I am running short on supplies as of late and must make a trip toΒ the store and junk yard respectively Β Yeah, as for Green Piece it was prior to my working with sandpaper again. Admittedly a miss on my part, but I already know better so it's no worry on that side. In my free time I may strip that area and take the time to sand and mend it but certainly not right away. I appreciate the constructive feedback. I am amiss for why anyone wouldn't want this.

People arn't open minded in my experience (take a look at Taxidermy things... the amount of hate those peeps get is awful!) Have you tried army surplus stores? theres one near my other half mothers that has allll sorts of little gauges and what not but thats in the UK...
I was also glad for your feedback! very few people comment on my works over the years iv been here and when they do its usually 'cool' or 'cute!' which dosen't really help.
