Yesterday I followed this short workshop called 'Pimp Maria', we all got to choose a statuette of our Virgin Mother and practically do whatever we liked with it. Yet they would ask us the meaning behind it, it was still supposed to be religious art. I kind of wire-wrapped her with golden flowers and painted her in colours the earth and the sky have in common. This way I portrayed her as the mother of both heaven and earth. The wires were the sorrows that she had to suffer throughout her life, the flowers meaning that that suffering also meant the beauty in her life, because they all revolve around her son Jesus.

I was quite inspired by the workshop that I made a portrait of the statuette in soft pastels.
