Description
Name: Cory Kavanagh
Age: 21 (just turned it)
Gender: Male
Height: 5'4"
Eye Color: Blue-Gray
Hair Color: Ginger
Birthday: January 3rd
Job: Currently Unemployed (ex-dancer)
Partner: NONE
Sexual orientation: So far he's only been attracted to women, but hey, right now he's just attracted to being friends with people, not really anything else.
Personality: Cory can appear very shy at first, trying to avoid conversation and interaction with others. Although he naturally does avoid people, he can open up and be quite friendly once you start talking with him. However, if you wrong one of the people he cares about, then he can come after you with vengeance, however, he never spouts slander, it is always the truth that falls from his lips, just not always presented in the most gentle way. He can be quite callous and introverted, and he does have a temper that flares up from time to time, usually when others are hurt, rarely at strangers or at harm done to himself. He has no concept of self-worth anymore, and carries a lot of baggage with him. He has no interest in romance and will turn down anyone who tries to pursue him until he is ready. He carries a lot of biases against flirtatious men, blonde women, and anyone named Anna or Annabelle. Also, NEVER ask him to dance. He's easily hurt, oversensitive, and often stuck in his own head. He suffers social anxiety and can't seem to get over his past, and since he refuses to talk to people about it, he wrongly expects them to just ignore it and respect his silence (this doesn't often happen). He's very flawed and jaded to the world, so it can sometimes be hard to find his good qualities, but deep down he's just a lost boy with a desire to be a child again.
History: Cory was born in Northern Ireland to a young, happy couple who were insanely in love. However, love doesn't often last, and his father left them when Cory was only a few months old-the strain of being a family man was weighing too heavily on him, so he moved to America and pursued other women and other career options that would tie him down less. Cory's mom wasn't fazed and continued to raise her little leprechaun of a son. She named him Cory for the round hill their little cottage sat upon. She sang him lullabies and taught him about faeries and magic and love. He grew up happily in the countryside, interacting with lots of barn animals and animals in general. As he was a gentle soul, they often flocked to him, and his mother (Claire) would usually find him surrounded by horses, dogs, goats, cats, and many others. They were never rich enough to own any animals themselves, but they lived among many farms, and thus he was never without animal company. His mother worked at these farms doing any job she could find, often taking Cory along. From a young age he learned how to work hard, but Claire always made it fun for him. She encouraged him to pursue Irish dancing, teaching him to dance atop her feet, and their evening were spent twirling in front of the fire.
When he was five years old, Cory was helping his mother with anything he could. Claire had a horrible immune system, and as Cory grew older, it just kept getting worse. She fell ill often, and he would do his best to do everything for her. He learned how to cook the most basic meals, always kept the house clean, and tended to her as best he could. However, one day she wasn't getting better, and she asked him to fetch their neighbors for help, as she lay in bed paler than the moon. Cory, terrified for his mother, rushed outside into the rain and ran as fast as his little legs could carry him. He reached the neighbors' farm and rushed into their house, begging them to come help his mom. They rushed over, and realizing how bad it was, bundled Claire into their truck and headed into town to take her to a hospital, leaving Cory with their own older children. Cory didn't understand why he wasn't able to go and cried for hours, trying to escape the watch of the other children, who kept him locked inside the house, out of the storm and unable to pursue his mother.
Cory didn't sleep that entire dark night, and when morning came the neighbors returned for him, taking him to the hospital, where his mother had been diagnosed with cancer. The doctors said she still had a few months left, and she had wanted to spend it with Cory, so they allowed mother and son to return to their little cottage. Claire fought hard against the cancer, trying to stay in this world for her only son. They spent the following months together in a shadow of their previous life. They still sang and danced, they still smiled, but the shadow of cancer lurked over them, and soon Claire could fight no longer. She ended up back in the hospital as they struggled in a last ditch effort to save her. But in her wisdom, Claire knew that her time had come. She called Cory in, taking her little toddler in her arms and kissing each freckle on his face, making him promise that he would never stop being who she had taught him to be, the little bit of magic the faeries had let her have. Cory somehow felt that this was the last time he would see her, and he clung to her words and to her body, holding back his tears, not wanting their last moments to be ones of grief. Instead, they whispered quietly to each other, and then as his mother's heart began to stop, and he was rushed out of the room by the neighbors, Cory let himself cry.
Cory wasn't allowed at the funeral, the neighbors, who were taking care of him for the moment, thought it would be too much for him. But after it was over, he found his mother's grave overlooking the fields they had danced through, marked only by a large stone, and he hugged it, saying his goodbyes...
At six years old, Cory entered the foster care system in Ireland. He lived in a house with many other abandoned and/or orphaned children, and he taught them how to make chores fun. This has fostered a love for children that remains with him today. He had a few families look at him, but he quietly referred them to another child in need, one who wanted a family. Cory had had a family once, he didn't want another one...but one day, when he was eight, his dad showed up, having come all the way from America for his kid. No one knows if it was out of actual love, or out of guilt, but Donn showed up and signed the papers to bring Cory with him...back to the States.
Cory was upset, of course, leaving the country he knew as home, and his mother's grave...he hadn't even been able to visit it to say goodbye before he was whisked overseas, to a house on the outskirts of some suburbs in a town with a climate far warmer than he was used to. On these sweltering streets he found no wilderness to explore and no abundance of animals like in the country, and he pined for it. But his mother had taught him to look on the bright side of things, so he tried. He continued to dance, despite his father trying to discourage him from it, claiming it to be a sissy activity that would never amount to anything. However, as Cory attended school and kept dancing, it was what kept him connected to his mother and his homeland. He began to hide his accent, getting sick of people talking about it and mimicking him, or worse, asking about his past, because it brought up painful memories of his mother and happier times. When Cory entered middle school, dance was what brought him his first true friend, a young girl named Lana who was also petite and short, and who also loved traditional dances. She taught him and he taught her, and together they danced.
Perhaps Cory had a boyish crush on Lana, after all, she was a sweet, beautiful girl, but he never acted upon it, valuing her more as a friend than as a romantic interest. It was Lana who introduced him to Avalon, her other best friend. He attended a different school, but they had been neighbors for as long as they could remember. Avalon didn't judge Cory for dancing, and Cory never judged Avalon for his handicap, so all three of them were friends for those hard years of middle school.
When they entered high school, all at the same school, the summer before freshman year brought Shawn and Cam into their lives. While Cory had met Cam once or twice, she had never been around too much, and it turned out that she and Avalon had been going through some stuff. But now they were back, and encouraging him and Lana to join a dance troupe with them. Lana agreed readily, and despite knowing his father's disapproval of it, Cory joined up as well. In the class they met Shawn, who had joined with his sister. The trio became a quintet, and they learned as much as they could, practicing together in and out of class. For Avalon and Shawn it was more of a fun hobby, but for the girls and Cory, this was a passion. Outside of dance, he maintained his grades, took care of the cooking and chores at home, and worked two jobs. His father often brought home his 'conquests', and Cory found it disgusting-he had no role model for a relationship other than his alcoholic father and his one night stands. That is, until Lana and Shawn moved from being friends to dating. It worried him at first, partially because Lana was his best friend, and partially because he had once felt more for her than friendship. However, seeing how good they were for each other, he quietly supported them and the group continued to grow closer and better at dancing.
Towards the end of freshman year, a new girl joined the dance class...a girl named Annabelle. She was blonde, French, and instantly drawn to the group. She was outgoing and fashionable and sweet, and she and Cam became the best of friends. The group soon was divided into pairs for couples dancing, and when Cory ended up with Anna, he got to know her better. They bonded over both being of European origin, and he quickly began to fall for her. It was clear to everyone that he was smitten. He did everything he could for her, pushing himself to be a better dancer to keep up with her, pushing himself at work to make extra money to buy her stuff she had mentioned 'needing'. He did absolutely everything for her, and the two of them became a power couple in dancing, moving up through the ranks. They were perfect together, or at least as perfect as 'perfect' really is.
They both planned on going into college to study dance, but during their auditions, Anna kept falling...or Cory kept dropping her. She stood up for him, but after the third 'fall/drop', her ankle wound up twisted, and no one wanted to have someone who could be purposefully sabotaging their couple auditions, so Cory was put off of every school's list in terms of dancing. Anna reassured him they could audition together the following season...but then stopped communicating with everyone.
The next the group knew, Annabelle was in a prestigious ballet school, and not speaking to any of them any longer. They all were stung and confused, but Cory most of all. He still blamed himself for her getting hurt, although it was clear that there had been some sort of foul play, and no matter what the rest of the group said, he didn't confront Anna, nor did he bring any evidence of her faking it to any of the schools. He truly believed he had failed her, and nothing anyone said could change his views. When the rest of them went off to college, Cory went home and packed his bags, told his dad he was leaving, and the only farewell he got was a beer bottle thrown at the door as he left and insults hurled at his back.
Cory hit the road and headed out west, searching for solace in wide open spaces. He stopped communicating with his group of friends, wanting to distance himself from everything that brought about pain...but out west he found a greater pain...he got a job working at a bar during the day, and dancing there at night. A job he was ashamed of, as it required him to strip. He was fairly popular, most visitors referring to him as 'little red', along with other pet names. Cory put up walls, telling himself he was just earning money by dancing in a different way, but it became clear that dancing wasn't enough for some of the patrons, and he often had to remind them that just because he was a stripper didn't mean he was a prostitute. Most patrons left him alone, but some were rather pushy.
One night it went too far.
Cam received a call in the middle of the night from a very calm and collected Cory who informed her he was sorry for his absence and that he would be returning to the town. When he turned up black and blue, she tried to ask questions but he let them float over him without answering, instead asking about Avalon. She told him that Avi had moved to a place called Pawsville, and set up a therapist service there. Cory listened and nodded before asking to shower. Waving him to it, Cam called Avalon and asked that he take Cory on. As a therapist and one of Cory's closer friends, she hoped that her little brother could draw some answers out of the redhead.
Thus, Cory ended up in Pawsville, staying with Avalon and Rooster. At first, he was terrified of the transforming animals, a bit put off by the fact Avi was technically dating his dog, and just in general being a sulky, unhappy brat. But as he met more people and as Rooster and Avalon kept offering kindness, his false iciness began to melt. He lost his temper during the Tootsie arc, where there was a lot of verbal and physical fighting, but he gained a friend in Eolian from it, and grew closer to Avalon, and even to Rooster. Now, Cory sees both Rooster and Avalon as his dorky big brothers, and is starting to allow himself to settle in a bit more. However, he is still easily triggered and hates to speak of his past, so no one is sure what the future will hold for the little boy from Ireleand...
Family:
Claire Kavanagh: DECEASED, Claire was a farm girl raised in Northern Ireland, she was always bright and cheerful, and although she graduated high school she didn't go on to college, instead choosing to marry Donn and start a family in the countryside she so loved, when Donn left she was heartbroken, but remained strong and cared for Cory, raising him the way she thought was right, calling him her gift from the faeries. When diagnosed with cancer, she faced it with courage for both herself and her son, and died with dignity. Her final resting place is among the fields she spent her life frolicking through.
Donn Delaney: STATUS UNKNOWN, Donn is a native Irishman who fell for Claire in high school, he also didn't go to college, and instead decided to try his hand at being a farmer, however, when Claire became pregnant so shortly after their marriage, he began to have doubts about commitment. When Cory was born, Donn tried to stick around in memory of the good times, but couldn't take it and left for America, where he attended college and got a job at a bank. He had plenty of alcohol and women, and was pretty happy until he found out that Claire had passed and that Cory had been put into foster care. Not really knowing why, he flew over to Ireland to get the boy and brought him home. He was never supportive of Cory's dancing, and his alcoholism took over more as the years passed, until the day Cory left home, and he realized that he had ruined his own life and possibly that of his son....
Extra information:
-his dance troupe called him 'Ri' and 'Ginger Snap'
-he has an Irish accent still, but he tries to hide it because he doesn't like talking about his past
-freckles EVERYWHERE
-yeah he's short and petite, but most of his weight is muscle, so don't try anything
-favorite dance styles: hip-hop, swing, modern, jazz, ballroom
-never call him 'Little Red'
---------------------------------
I know that this is far from my best work but I was being such a perfectionist that I had already put Cory off for a few months. So I said 'whatever' and drew him up. I apologize for the bleeding eyes that you all must have from it, next time I draw him well I'll change his ref : I
Also, I love writing long histories, if you read through all that kudos to you! **I also have to emphasize that just because you have read the history doesn't mean your character knows it, so don't bring any of it up ok**
ROLEPLAYING
-I am always up for roleplays
-I prefer Skype (enchanted-topaz) or notes!
-Seriously I love to rp just hit me up anytime don't be scared please ;u;

; v ; thank you so much, I always try to put a lot of effort in but then I worry it's too overwhelming to see that much text on an application and turns people away, so your comment really made my day, thank you ever so much! If you'd ever be interested, I'd love to rp ; v ;

Haha, I know what you mean. I cut so much back when I finally posted my guy up. When I see an app with a big block of text, I always put it in a new tab and take the time to read it, I just love long applications x3
Sure I'm a bit slow on the reply though. I RP lit via notes and generally speaking, type as much as you do ^^

Oh no don't worry about it! I'm usually a bit slow as well, and I love using notes, I try to type longer replies, but if we're bouncing back and forth quickly I shorten them a bit to make the most of the time we're both on! c: If you wouldn't mind shooting the first one I'd love that since I gotta run to school!
