TAZ: Though his mother was still living the life of a feral horse back in the New Forest, we found that Nazzy quickly grew attatched to Star during his first few weeks at Lakeland. The paint mare didn't seem bothered that the colt had decided to follow her around, and so we let them be. When the time came where Nazzy was the normal age for a foal to be weaned, we tried to seperate them and found that the bond they had formed was as strong as one between a mare and her own foal.
When we tried to split them, Star was unusually upset, more so than Naz seemed to be. I got Mia to try and calm her as I led Naz away, and while the foal seemed to be much more interested in my snacks and the camera than his adoptive mother. Star, on the other hand, wouldn't stop pulling and seemed terrified that her new baby was being taken away from her.
I think it was more an exercise to start to wean Star off Naz than the other way 'round, if I'm going to be honest. I reckon they'll probably be pasture buddies one Nazzy's older and gelded.
