I've mentioned a couple times that I should make one of these, since I really do love drawing braids XD By no means is this an "official" method, they're just the methods I use
Don't be afraid to use references! Look up pictures of braids, trace them to practice and pay attention as you do so. You can learn a lot from real braids just like drawing anything else!I hope some of you find this useful!

the first one is similar to how I draw braids. ^_^
hm, actually, back in May, I had tried figuring out a slightly more exact way, which is even more similar to your number one because of those specific lines. But I never did finalize it. I might should sometime.Β sta.sh/0bxqxcvsqipΒ Maybe I shouldΒ do a bit of a study about braids andΒ make a tutorial withΒ someΒ illustrations of how braids lay.
The second drawing of your number two looks a lot like a braid from the side, by the way. Doing it that way would probably make it a lot easier to draw a braid twisting.

Very cool! I use a moderation of #1 to do bindings for swords a lot
When I used to do a lot of braids on one of my characters, I'd often use a variation of #2 that I was inspired from by the Blazblue character Taokaka - simply put, think of each section of hair as interlocking heart shapes, where the tip of one would connect to the "V" top of another. When you think of it like that, it's actually pretty easy

this is great! I love braids but they are so hard to draw, I just recently figured out a braid looking...thing, not nearly as good as these ones. Did you know this is being featured on the main page? that's how I found it.
