Depends on your timing, I think about two years ago I was at a con that had a run of these (among the massive wave of KH characters)....
That said... it's better than what I saw then, which is saying alot to be honest.

Personally, it's Final Fantasy.... 7, at that. To say that it can be overrated is an understatement.
Kingdom Hearts is an odd beast, despite not really doing much with the system. It guess it's the production value, which given that it is Disney behind SquareEnix meant something good with the voice action, the character animation, etc.
Anyone into anime really loves that, myself... gamer first, so I don't see much of the love. That said, the few side games that are not formulaic have been interesting.

I can never ever think of FF VII as overrated. I have too much love for that game. I played it to death back in 1997 and am still playing new games on it to this day. I never tire of it.
Yeah, KH is an cool game story wise but game play wise - they really aren't the best.

It is more that, I think that there is better in the stable of characters and worlds than what you find in 7. I usually hold 6 in high regard (for a lot of things, Kefka, Shadow and Locke mainly) having gotten a lot of things right with the formula that is Final Fantasy... 7 to me is a start of a lot of thing goings wrong with FF, but I am not about to start an argument and stop there.
If KH can be followed it's quite something, but you kind of get the feeling that with each new game... they are adding in a lot on the fly. I don't think that anyone on the team at the time, expected the series to go this far...irony being that Final Fantasy had a rather similar fate, just without the trivial matter of having an continuum between each game to be followed.

I can sort of get you with 8, the story was really sappy. Never really understood it, but battle was damn fun...
X... Depends, X-2 really ruined the entire story for me. X itself was not bad, battle was solid if a little ripped, story was ok (again Nomura is rather bad at love stories). Save for Yuna, the character are rather likeable.
Then X-2 happened....

I liked VIII but I couldn't get the hang of the whole junctioning thing. X I've not played too much of. The thing about it for me is whenever I get into a battle, I just think, "God I miss materia!" cos I know how to work materia so well that anything else I just don't like.
