In the scenario of Mage: the Ascension, magic is the very ability of altering reality and mages are those who are 'awaken' to the truth and know they are able to model reality according to their wills. However, they are but a small parcel of the world's population. Normal people do not believe someone can make a dragon out of the blue in the middle of New York. Because of that, reality has a resistance against the changes mages do, and that is Paradox. Paradox is the reality's reaction upon the mage, and it can completely obliterate the person depending on how grave the 'offense' to reality was.

I tried to portray Paradox on this piece.
