How to emulate Copic Markers digitally with Paint Tool SAII've been struggling to emulate copic markers digitally using Paint Tool SAI. After a lot of experimentation and thought, this is the method I decided to use. I admit it's still not exactly like using copics, but I reckon the result looks close enought.

I think there's something wrong with my markers...I followed all your steps, but when I use the Copic marker, the colour gets darker and darker the harder I push/more times I go over it, but to the point of a light colour turning black. I don't think this is supposed to happen considering the nature of the skin tones you are putting down in your tutorial, each colour remains the same and is relatively consistent. It's kind of hard to explain, but basically the colour will completely change to an entirely different colour. My light beige skin tone shade turned deep red to black, I don't think this is supposed to happen.Β

its probably because of the multiply setting, it makes the color way darker than the one you choose

Really good tutorial, since I've been experimenting with the Marker tool and blending options a while now (albeit not for too long) and I wasn't quite happy with the way it usually turned out (normally a messy mix of Marker and Water Tool) but you r tutorial was a great help in finding other ways to shade and blend

i can't duplicate the brush when i clikc on an empty space. any ideas?

Right click on the brush itself, then select "Duplicate." The new brush will appear in the next empty space.
IF you need to create the brush, right click an empty space, and select "Marker."

I have been searching all day for how to color my drawing, and out of all the tutorials I looked at, this is the best one! I am such a fan of copic markers, but they are expensive. I must say that this is an amazing solution!

You have to make it ^^ If you right click on of the blank squares where the tools are, you can make new tools. for copic use a marker tool. You can rename it if you click the box again ^^

You have to make the copic brush in Paint Tool Sai.

Hey- I'm trying to replicate your settings. I have the SAI English Pack, and my advanced settings aren't 'optional'- they're preset; and I also don't have the watercolor A texture. Help?

I found the texture setting you mentioned... and tried the brush as it was with the base settings.
When you say you fill your skin layer with your background color (the paper shade), I imagine that is not on the same layer as the lineart? I tried it on a new layer and each stroke of my brush terminated in a darker shade toward the bottom (and I'm talking like, 70% increase in shade).
No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to look like your settings. It just kept looking like the regular marker brush.
