Description

21 pages - Full Color -Β  price is 600 points!

Simply put, it is an inspirational comic shedding a unique light on depression, and in a nutshell, Its a story about one of the hardest things to fully accept, that right now its our chance and our time, and later, when its REALLY our time (to go) , we leave so somebody else can have theirs. We all live with that fact, even if we cant accept it until we no longer have a choice in the matter. But sometimes...... we make that choice to live another day because that is all we can do, to just try to breathe for another day.

The story also involves HP Lovecraft old gods to tell the tale of how every seemingly normal thing is unnatural and against the person suffering from depression, every moment a fight, living in a world nobody else can see.

Ive barely had time to grab myself by the face to keep from my head spinning (funny visual). I'm reeling over how hard earned this final project is and its finally final after 4 years. The Secret Life of Crows came first, but this one nestled on my HDD waiting for the day to come where I was able to be where i needed to be artistically to give this book justice. I've surprised even myself this time.....

That's an awesome idea! I never thought you could use DA as a way of pseudopublishing a book!

Can you convert points into money? I know you can buy a membership, but aside from that, I don't see the appeal of points. I'm rather new to all this.

Nonetheless, I hope your comic is a huge success! As someone interested in the future of comics outside of the superhero companies, I'm probably TOO excited to see what will happen with your idea!

you use money to buy points, its the currency of dA. otherwise you can buy it on gumroad with just regular money. I dont think you can convert points back into regular money, though.

What do people use it for, then? O.o

Aah, that's a good point. So even if you can't convert points into money, you could still get services on DA.

indeed. I did it by accident and didnt realize how many points I got, and how many I use each time I buy something. I'be bought a print, and tons of brushes and I still have plenty.

While you can't turn points back into cash, if you have a Core membership, a Paypal account, and are utilizing Premium content (like this deviation) or the commissions widget, deviantArt will give you the USD equivalent of the point value of your purchases (minus a little bit of money that deviantArt takes off of the top) after a 14 day clearance period as long as you've earned $5.00 or more. Or at least they should , unless something has drastically changed since last year.

Points are primarily used on the site to buy commissions from other people (often you'll see some very misguided people charge a very low amount of points for commissions because they aren't aware of the actual point value, which is 80 points = a dollar), premium content, and most often, core membership. Without a Core membership, that's pretty much the only value that points can give you.

ToolKitten , does deviantART still give you cash earnings for premium content or do they only give points now? I haven't used the commissions widget or premium content services for anything, so my info is based on what I've been able to find elsewhere. Is the process still similar to what's described in this journal?

they give me cash for my earnings, or I can turn it into points.

Aah, so if your info stands, by using core membersip bonus content, you can get points tuned into money, which explains why so many people want core memberships. In that case, it would be correct to say that I should get Cord before starting any similar ventures up, right?

This is rather interesting!

I looked into it further and it appears that I might have gotten details mixed up based on my searches having outdated information! My apologies for any confusion. It turns out you actually can use the commissions widget and premium content along with being able to monetize points you gain from transactions without needing a Core membership. It wasn't ALWAYS that way though, stuff like the commissions widget were only available to beta testers before being released to the general public. You can only opt into beta test features on the site if you have Core membership. Unfortunately the main Core advertisement page doesn't actually go into more detail about the features Core offers, so I'll mention some of the more popular ones that the page doesn't bring up:

Another popular feature is being able to customize your page further with extra widgets, backgrounds, access to image embeds, etc. Your page automatically stands out when you do that, though you gotta be careful not to go overboard. Some people just like having a more customized page, core membership lets you have custom journal skins on top of customizing your page. Core membership also lets you embed thumbnails in deviations and comments, which can be helpful when you want to show examples of your work or other people's work because people can see the image immediately instead of having to see a text only link. If you're the kind of person who uses your sta.sh storage often, Core gives you 10 GB of storage, though chances are, you'll be fine with 2 GB unless you're super hardcore about it. Core lets you help administrate more than three groups, which is mostly useful if you're really keen on running groups. Thankfully if you run out of your Core membership, you're still allowed to admin those extra groups so long as you don't leave them. Basically, Core is full of features that are beneficial to power users of deviantArt but aren't entirely necessary for you to utilize the site to its full capacity. You also get a free day of Core membership on your birthday, so if you want to test out the features without paying for it, that would be the time.

Commissions widgets and premium content aren't necessary to monetize content, you can always handle transactions through Paypal entirely or use services like Gumroad for content. The benefit of having them available through deviantArt is to be able to monetize and make $$$ (or points, if you prefer) off of people who prefer points transactions over cash for whatever reason (No Paypal access, lack of cash, etc). If Core is for power users but isn't needed to properly enjoy the site, points are like a secondary currency that's also more so for power users that isn't necessary to properly enjoy the site either. There are plenty of people who do solely cash commissions, so there's no need to utilize monetizing points if you don't feel the need!
